I've seen many videos about starting mac servers with more RAM, most of them involve going to the terminal and pasting java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar into it. This worked for a while but it began to lag again after a while. Is there a different way to get more RAM on a mac server? Thanks.

Part of your original post bolded for emphasis.
So as the person suggested you would change this part to:
java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar minecraft_server.jar
However you need the have enough ram in your mac to devote that much to minecraft. If you have 4GB of ram then devoting 2GB to your minecraft server is feasible. You need to leave some ram for your system to use.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
