Minecraft Skin Stealer - for Windows
So, I got really tired of constantly going to MinersNeedCoolShoes just so I could get people's skins to edit them. So I thought, "I know programming, why don't I just make a skin stealer?". Of course, C# was being difficult so I went to my native VB.NET. And here I present to you, the Minecraft Skin Stealer! :D

How does it work? Pretty simple; but you'll need .NET Framework 4 (click to download). Most people probably have it. If you don't, it's worth installing since alot of windows programs will start using these .NET Frameworks. It's unknown if this works with MONO or not so if someone could test this for me, that'd be great ^_^
After you've installed it, download the program, launch it, and you'll be presented with a screen like this:
http://img3.imagesha.../121/pic1fr.png

Type in the Minecraft username of the person you want for the skin. Press "Steal skin!" and wait. I don't know how to resolve the slow server response time, you'll have to deal with it =/

http://img819.images...2231/pic2fp.png
at least I gave you a nice loading animation =P

The skin saves to the same directory you have the program in and it saves the file as whatever the username is. Convienent, eh? =P

http://img20.imagesh...0/66/pic3ga.png
It shows a preview of the skin and a nice message box when it's downloaded. Hitting the reset button will clear the text boxes and set the preview skin to Notch's skin :P

So now, you're probably wondering about downloads! :D

Downloads
Minecraft Skin Stealer.exe (56 kb)
I'm also offering the source for those who want to take a look at it, or edit it, or improve it. All I ask is that, if you edit it, you give me some credit =)
Feel free to add it into your own VB.NET program such as a suite of various MC tools, again all I want is a mention =)
Minecraft Skin Stealer Source.zip (~1 mb)

The source was built for use in Visual Studio (specifically Visual Basic)
Anyways, have fun guys and It was probably done a million times, but I feel like releasing this, why be sefish? =P

Well, this would be a very useful legal hack, but because there are no screenshots I dont find this as a very reliable source.

Hey guys, out my fanfic! http://www.minecraft...ne-fan-fiction/

nice program bro i wont use it though since i dont want to use others skins but rather make my own :)

also i dont think their should be a "big" problem with the legal problems since as you said b4 you can go on a web side and download alot of skins from their.

Thanks, that's good to know ^_^

I noticed that it only takes forever on the first skin you enter. After that, it shouldn't take very long

Currently working with MonoDevelop in Ubuntu to get this to work; I may have to rewrite in C# ;P
I do not have a Mac to test this MonoDevelop stuff on so if someone volunteers to do this, they will get credit for days c:

BUMP: I did a little bit of Hackintoshing on my old Dell and got 10.5 Leopard to work ;)
That's not the point though! After installing Mono, I managed to get it to run just by typing in "mono 'Minecraft Skin Stealer.exe'" (without quotes)
So for now, Mac users have at least SOMETHING to play around with ;P

Pics so it did happen:

This would annoy many people, Jeb or Notch should make the program for skins not online, but saved on the players computer
Hehehe, my old signature broke. I have no idea why i'm typing this in red either.

Well, the way I see it is. Take someone like iJevin's skin, edit it, and then use it for your own personal use! :P

I don't think I have my skin saved anywhere on my computer anymore, so I used this program last night to get my skin back so I could do some edits to it. Posted Image Anyway, thanks for this program!

First I have to say is: VB and C# use the same .net libraries and there are many code converters to convert vb.net code into c# code o.O, so when its too difficult in c# it´s also too difficult in vb.net

Second WTF? I thougt it´s too difficult for you in c# ^^

My old computer did the same thing while i was using small basic(ages ago!). It's the software not realizing that someone else made it, and trying to flag that up.

Also...

Good idea, but I think just going to
http://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftSkins/ENTERUSERNAMEHERE.png
is easier. No additional software needed.
I've quit Minecraft and Minecraft Forums. I will check my PM every once in a while. If you think I will care about your message, feel free to send me one. ____________________________________ __________ - Shibe
