For those who say sponges are completely useless:

As for my choice, I'd go with clay. You dig it up, and the only purpose is to make brick blocks. The only real reason to craft it back into clay blocks is if you're inventory is filling up with those balls and you need to make room for more. Especially since you're going to need to break it into the balls again, which is a waste of time and tool durability.

I'd like to see your thoughts on the subject next time you find yourself drowning and unable to swim upward!

none. every block is useful in one way or another, you may not use it, but other people do. Netherackhas eternal fire, which is great for mob traps, and fireplaces. fences i use most of the time, its funny having houses made of fences.
Mods make it better!

Wool. it's ONLY use is for making beds. as something utilitarian, it's the only item with one use other than obsidian. and obsidian opens up a whole new world for you, AND is blast proof.

Welp. It now Seems that NO block is Useless.

Well I happen to remember in beta 1.7, I was able to clear out water using sponges I spawned in on a server. Coulda just been a plugin I suppose.

You'd die of thirst IRL. Plus water isn't a solid block.

I really have to say, BRICKS! Sheesh! They're just BUILDING blocks, absolutely no use for anything else and can be obtained legitimately.

Think about it, theyre dead and decaying. Fungi grows where decay is, so they fit right in perfectly.

Wool. Aside from looking cool, of course.

The sad thing is, in medieval warfare wool has a lot of uses. Armors for peasant levies? Wool. Padded gambeson for knights to prevent chafing from plate/mails? Wool. Warm blankets? Wool. flaming ammunition for catapults? Oiled wool wrapped around a boulder. And so on and so forth.

My suggestion is they bring woolen armor back. Or better still, a recipe to combine leather, thread and wool into padded gambeson/aketon.

Spawners are extremely useful because they can serve to make XP grinders or just grinders alone.
