This is a place of quiet comfort for those recovering from recent Online Arguments. Feel free to share and get things off your chest so that those nasty feelings can go away.
I'll begin.
Hello, my name is Krova, and I'm a recovering Online Argument Addict.
"Hello Krova."
I used to struggle in every thread not to lash out at those with opposing views and bad grammar, especially if they didn't share what I thought was a good reason. I didn't know how to walk away from a bad situation. Sometimes the bad moods from my online arguments would linger well after the page was closed.
It once came to a point where I could lose hours of my day arguing on online forums.
With the help of friends, family, and even moderators during my darkest hours, I've taken the first steps to recovery.
I'd like to apologize to people whom I've hurt, just over sharing their opinion.
Thank you.
*applause*
As I retake my seat in the Harmony Circle, is there anything that another member of OAA would like to share? We're all here for you.
Oh, and first-time members, please don't forget to take a newcomers' mug:
I like to argue with people about religion. Usually derailing threads and killing OP's.
Please help me OT. PLEASE!
Thank you for the mug.
*clap clap clap* Thank you for sharing OrcMaster.
Have you ever thought about quoting the post you want to argue over, and taking that quote over to the Religion thread to discuss it there? It could be the first step to keep from derailing threads.

Hello, I am TheJoeKnows, formerly known as EpicJoe, and I have small arguments whenever I disagree someone. Thankfully, I get over them quickly, and so I think I can help out you guys. :smile.gif:

I recently got in a very heated debate on the bungie forums and it got me to break a whole in my wall. what do i do?
Hi, everybody, I'm Pely, and I'm addicted to online arguments.
Most of the time, I'm just a lurker, but if I ever come out of the shadows to actually post on a thread I care about, usually I sink my teeth in. I want to learn to let go.
No doughnuts for mee, thanks. I haven't eaten dinner yet.
thanks for the mug.

You're very welcome. I do hope you're not injured!
Well, first, I'd make sure to calm down and really ask yourself why you had such a violent reaction. Were you frustrated that your opponent in debate would not change their point of view?

I find that if I feel too involved in an online argument, I need to just close the thread and walk away from the computer. Sometimes I'll try to still frequent other parts of the forum, but I always relapse if I don't take action.
It's not wrong to think about a thread after you've closed it, but it's a good idea not to talk about it or let it govern your next decision.

I get that whole needing to physically get away from the computer thing. Going cold turkey. Not too shabby an idea.
Hello. I'm Shiny. I've managed to recover from some amount of online arguing. How? I go into a thread, type up a response, and realize that the OP is not going to listen anyways. So I close the tab.

Sometimes I'll do that; type out my thoughts, then change my mind about posting.
The only time I really start getting into arguments is when it extends to politics or religion. At least people there are semi-intelligent. (Actually, probably a whole lot more intelligent then I am.)
I've only really given up the whole minecraft arguments.
Also, I have the tendency to not post when I know 20 other people are going to say the same point I am going to say.
(Then no one posts the point. Then I am flabbergasted.)
Hello, I am Feryll, and I'm an online debate argument addict.
While I'm not liable to explode into a warnable fiery (only got one warning for lashing out against a troll :/ ), I have a habit of either vehemently arguing the useless, or possibly failing to deliver my sentiments correctly. It's been cut-down since the past, but don't worry, the zoo of my stupidity is still very open for the kiddies. I guess, however, one learns to shut their trap at certain times after a few unforgivable mistakes...
Okay, my name is -censored-, and I get into arguments that make no god damn sense. My arguments usually start by someone not accepting my opinion, or being a control freak and getting mad at me because I dislike something.
What really gets to me is when I feel like I'm censored by the forum rules. Sometimes it'd hard to get a point across without putting yourself at risk of a warning. It's always possible, though.
The first step I took to stop getting in flame wars was to not post in threads unless I could help. Sometimes I would pop in just to say "this thread is useless", but I realize now that it doesn't help anything. At least now, if I'm going to complain about a thread per se, I make sure I say something useful and on-topic at the same time :wink.gif:
Another big thing, as Sillen pointed out, is that sometimes I'm the idiot. I'd say that half of the online arguments I've been in were due to one side or the other not being able to admit that they've been proven wrong.
Oh, UndeadNecro and Feryll, don't forget your refreshments!

Ohh that's another big one - self defense. I'm not saying standing up for myself is bad, but I'd often go way overboard when I felt flamed.
I'll begin.

I still slip up sometimes.
On another note, I hate it when someone flames me or breaks a rule towards me, and then I do something similar, and get warned for it.
It's a very dirty habit.
