I'd thoroughly recommend the Better than Wolves. It adds many vanilla-themed items and mechanisms and everything is very well balanced for survival.

If you're in 1.7.3, Survivalism is AMAZING, well, it's really just for survival, no structures really, but for structures, maybe Mystic Ruins, or Millionaire Mod. However you spell that. Good Luck!
