The TU9 for Minecraft on XBLA is live! Please keep in mind that, while the update is now live and should automatically update, it may not be available in your region immediately. If the game has not yet updated, give it a little bit of time, and it should update on its own.

The list of awesome changes includes the following:
  • Added 'The End', with new layout, and new Enderdragon behaviour.
  • Added Climbable Vines.
  • Added Fire Charge, Wooden Button, Item Frames, Spawn Eggs, Sandstone Stairs, Spruce Stairs, Birch Stairs, Nether Bricks, Spruce Planks, Birch Planks, Nether Brick Slab, Spruce Slab and Birch Slab.
  • Added new music for The End and The Nether from C418
  • Made buckets and signs stackable.
  • Sheep now re-grow their wool after shearing.
  • New gravel texture.
  • Can now smelt Netherrack into a Nether Brick in a Furnace.
  • Blacksmith buildings in Villages now hold chests with loot of the same type as found in Strongholds.
  • Crafting recipe change; Sign recipe gives three Signs.
  • Crafting recipe change; Half Slab recipes give six Half Slabs.
  • Crafting recipe change; Stone Button now requires one block of stone instead of two.
  • Added smoother color transitions between biomes.

I don't know about you guys, but I've been ready for a change in Minecraft for a long, long time.  So, it is with great pleasure that I reveal to you the next iteration of Minecraft, courtesy of Mojang: MINECRAFT 2.0!!!  What does this new version include?  Let's take a look at the details, courtesy of Dinnerbone, from Mojang!

Gameplay

  • Added new Super Hostile game mode, for a much more challenging Survival experience.
  • Difficulty setting is now per-world and may never be changed once set.
  • Added new graphics setting “Ultra Realistic” with new patent-pending experimental 4D-rendering.
  • Added new chase-style 3D camera perspective.

    Animals

  • Added new realistic food/hunger system to animals.
  • Overfeeding animals may have a negative effect on gameplay.
  • Added a new “Horse” animal, with two different breeds to choose from.
  • Each animal now has a gender and personality, introducing new farming mechanics.
  • Added a new rare breed of chicken known as a “Diamond Chicken”.
  • May lay diamonds or lapis instead of laying eggs.
  • May also blow up from too much pressure. Handle with care.
  • Added new friendly Pink Wither, which is the complete opposite of a wither.
  • Shoots out Love, which heals the nearby land and causes things to grow faster.
  • Known bug: Having both a Pink Wither and a Wither in your world at the same time may
  • cause up to a 200% increase in framerate. Will be fixed for launch.
  • All animals may be fed Golden Apples to unleash their hidden magical properties (see new Magic section).
  • Chickens are now classified as a Monster and are no longer a friendly Animal.

    Monsters

  • Chickens do not appreciate being looked at and may get upset.
  • Attacking a lone chicken may summon additional chickens to its defense.
  • Zombie Pigmen now spawn with battlesigns and no longer use swords.
  • Fixed a bug causing Skeletons to miss their targets on occasion.
  • Added new Redstone Bug monster (see Redstone section).

Changes to Minecraft Forum

In addition to changes to Minecraft, we here at Minecraft Forum are very excited to announce some really sweet changes to the forum itself!

  • The front page news will now be featuring only Minecraft 2.0 videos, maps, and mods
  • The front page will also be used to show off many other games besides Minecraft, which is now old by internet standards
  • Due to low usage, the following sections will be deleted from the forum on April 14th:
    • Off-Topic
    • Servers
    • Mods
    • Minecraft Discussion
    • Contact Forum Administration
    • Videos
  • A new forum section, "Minecraft 2.0" will be added, and will be the only unlocked section of the forum. Every other section not deleted will be locked and archived.
  • All rule infractions will now result in an email being sent to the users' parents.  The staff felt that suspensions and bans were not effective, and that this new measure will be far more proactive in establishing a friendly environment for everyone.
  • I will be retiring from MCF to pursue my lifelong dream of being a mime.
  • Any user caught typing the word "bacon" will have their avatar changed to a pretty princess, and their user name changed to match.
  • Private messaging and Search will be disabled on April 14th due to low usage.
  • The only videos on the front page that do not feature Minecraft 2.0 will be Curse videos, such as this fine review:

Fixes for 1.5 are already on their way, and you can test them early!  While 1.5 launched with few issues, there were still some to iron out, and many have been addressed with this update.  Keep in mind, while this can be tested now, it isn't officially live yet, and any bugs found should be reported here.

The 1.5.1 update is, barring unforeseen circumstances, expected to go live tomorrow.

Changelog:

A bit of a deviation from the usual Snapshot, this one is an early look at 1.5.1 - which contains a number of fixes and tweaks for 1.5 - before its release next week.  What does it have?

  • Ender Dragon can still grief stuff like cobblestone and chests even if the gamerule mobGriefing is set on false.
  • White stitching on polygon edges / White lines or black dots between blocks
  • Unable to combine enchanted books for a higher level enchant.
  • Hopper doesn't try to place items from other slots if unable from first.
  • Fire doesn't show on 8 layered snow and hopper
  • Long scoreboard objective titles can be offset screen
  • Breaking a Container with Items that is connected via a solid block with a Comparator does not update the Comparator
  • Falling Block entities start visually falling from 1 block higher than they were placed
  • Paintings popping out / cannot place new ones
  • a few Minecraft Realms changes

The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here - the 1.5 Redstone Update is now live!  Now, I know you want to jump into this massively awesome update head-first, so let's see what was added!

1.5 Features:

  • Added Redstone Comparator (used in Redstone logic)
  • Added Hopper (collects items and moves them to containers)
  • Added Dropper (similar to Dispensers, but always drops the item)
  • Added Activator Rail (activates TNT Minecarts)
  • Added Daylight Sensor
  • Added Trapped Chest
  • Added Weighed Pressure Plate
  • Added Block of Redstone
  • Added Nether Brick (item)
  • Added Nether Quartz and ore
  • Added Block of Quartz, with half blocks and chiseled variants
  • New command: /scoreboard
  • New command: /effect
  • Containers and mobs can have custom names
  • Inventory management has been changed, for example you can drag-place items over slots
  • Texture packs now have separate images for each block and item, and can have animations
  • Nether Quartz Ore now spawns in the Nether
  • Smooth lighting now has three settings (none, minimal, maximum)
  • More detailed death messages
  • Some hostile mobs now are harder in Hard difficulty
  • Many, many, bug fixes - more than you can shake a stick at

Please note: There is a scheduled 1.5.1 update in the very near future, to iron out some of the few remaining issues with 1.5, and it will be coming soon.  Tomorrow's Snapshot will reveal more of what is to come, so keep an eye out!

After weeks of hard testing, fixing, re-testing, and fixing even more, the 1.5 Pre-Release is now ready for testing!  We are in the final stretch for 1.5, and while it has taken a little longer than many expected, there is a silver lining!  Tons of features were added for the Redstone Update, and a landslide of bugs were swept away, to make sure the final release was as smooth and easy as possible.

The 1.5 pre-release is expected tomorrow!  In the meantime, help test out the latest round of Snapshot goodness!

Notable changes:
  • Dispensers and droppers will now only fire once when they receive a redstone signal. To fire again, the signal must be turned off and on again. (Previously a dispenser would fire whenever it had a signal and a nearby block changed.)
  • Redstone and components stay powered after unloading chunks
  • Dispenser and Dropper shooting out when updated
  • Server crashes if spaces are input on the console
  • Night Vision Potions that are edited to last longer create a potentially seizure-inducing flashing sky background.
  • Furnace interface occasionally closes when adding fuel, deleting all items in the furnace
  • Named Mobs Don't have Named Babies
  • Getting into a minecart with a mob in it crashes minecraft
  • 2 Hoppers funneling unstackable items into a 3rd Hopper at the same time cause the 3rd Hopper to not funnel items into a container
  • Dispensers continually shoot/use certain items like water buckets and flint&steel
  • Comparators still giving off power when hopper inventory is empty
  • Animals can breed over distances up to almost 8 blocks when only seperated by fences
  • Message "THIS TOO" in console
  • Full hoppers feeding into full hoppers causes the forward hopper to stall
  • Adding items to brewing stand using dropper does not change state of comparator

Back-to-back Snapshots can only mean one thing - 1.5 is nearly upon us!  This Snapshot corrects another massive round of bugs, as well as giving the detector rail an animation.  What was fixed this go-around?

Bug Fixes:

  • Unicode font text shadow misaligned
  • Activated detector-rails moved by a piston keep their activated state
  • Single player mode, creative mode, E to select block, select block from grid, E to return to game, game freezess, crash log created
  • Furnace Tile Entities reproducing – Internal performance bug
  • Furnace interface occasionally closes when adding fuel, deleting all items in the furnace
  • Redstone block and torches don't power dispensers, droppers, TNT and Noteblocks
  • Adding an item to a hopper with a dropper does not change comparator state.
  • Piston retracting disapears if pushed out by another piston
  • Issues with Baby Cows' hitboxes
  • Last Direct Multiplayerconnection does not get saved
  • Hard Crash
  • Hopper Cool-Down is messed up
  • Slowness 127 and Speed 110 together flip view
  • Using /clear on more than 1 player will stop clearing inventories once an empty inventory is encountered
  • /me cannot use @p correctly
  • updated redstone bug (detectorrail)
  • "/scoreboard teams empty teamName" error message says "%s" instead of the team's name

The pre-release will be delayed until no more bugs remain!  Mojang is committed to making sure 1.5 is as bug-free as possible, and they still need your help!  Want to contribute?  Give this Snapshot a test, and report any bugs you find here!


Features:

  • All potions are now categorized in Creative Mode
  • Removed the amplifier effect limit
  • /effect <Playername> (PotionID) 0 will take away the effect from the player if he/she got the effect
  • You can now go up to 1.000.000.000 but most of the effects will do weird after 127

Bugfixes:

  • TP Bug when you sit in Minecart/Boat/Riding pig
  • Minecart going in a circle will make any minecart close to them go super fast.
  • Sounds: Fire extinguish sound does not work in survival
  • Redstone and components stay powered after unloading chunks
  • Breaking Doors moves the other part of the door sometimes
  • Swords do not lose durability when used on the Ender Dragon
  • Creative Menu potion values are not the same as when brewed (issue redo)
  • Brewing stand comparator output inconsistent
  • Non-standard resolutions (and small standard resolutions) not detected properly
  • Nether cave/tunnel generator produces incorrect/cut tunnels
  • Missing quartz, hopper, and comparator textures
  • Quartz slabs and double slabs using wrong texture
  • Inconsistent distribution system (based on hopper, hopper bug) using rails and minecart-chest over hoppers
  • Powered mechanisms react when receiving a 0 tick redstone signal
  • Comparator use off state texture / do not emit any light when powered
  • Minecarts with Hoppers duplicating items when multiple carts are in the same space
  • Hitting mobs with a sharpness I wooden sword and weakness III crashes the game
  • Powering 2 pistons extends the wrong piston!
  • Mobs with the old AI have inverted head movement
  • Rows of Vertical Down Piston Extenders have a >50% failure rate
  • Minecraft crashes when a saddled pig you ride dies or when changing between rideable entities
  • Animations for items and blocks do not work properly
  • Unable to craft with blocks which have a damage value greater than 0
  • Invisible entities infinite spawn loop (client side) using minecart spawners causing severe performance issues.
  • Crash when near crops
  • View Upside Down with Speed 5 and FOV Quake Pro
  • Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem; Ticking player
  • Same redstone line, two different redstone level
  • Internal error when using /effect with an id >31

Here is an update to yesterday's Snapshot!  Keep an ear to the ground, as the 1.5 pre-release won't be far off now...

Bugfixes Aplenty:
  • crowdin.net: Entry entity.WitherBoss.name is missing – German translation is "Withern"
  • Self-Powered Redstone Lamp / Breaking a repeater with a piston pointing at a block won't stop the circuit
  • Potatoes are not affected by the Fortune enchantment
  • Items with NBT data do not stack correctly due to serialization
  • Cannot Drop Items in Creative Mode
  • texturepacks no longer work
  • Rail Duplication glitch
  • World crashes after a few seconds
  • blocks keep the redstone state when breaking a comparator that powers that block
  • Pistons can't destroy comparators
  • Crash with 512x texture pack
  • Fortune doesn't affect the drop rate of apples and saplings
  • "Pick Block" on certain items then switching to survival creates infinite or ghost items
  • When removing "Ghost Items" from the inventory, the number may be negative or zero
  • /clear with command blocks not working with armor that has been worn with custom damage values.
  • Minecraft crashes when a saddled pig you ride dies or when changing between rideable entities
  • Pressing Single or Multiplayer Button crashes the game
  • Mining Fatigue broken
  • Added an /effect command
