Jeb recently tweeted that 1.8 will most likely not be released tomorrow (9/13/11), but an update to the pre-release that's currently in circulation was highly likely.  Mojang wants to make sure this release is the best it can be, and is continuing to squelch bugs even as they fine-tune the features.

Players who are still looking for bugs in the 1.8 should make sure to submit or update bugs they find here, so Mojang can facilitate a smooth transition to 1.8! Back to Top

Jeb updated the "most likely" release date for 1.8 to September 12th, 2011!  Bear in mind, this isn't a guaranteed release date - just the most likely one as of this writing.  Keep an eye out for it!

Additionally, it has been confirmed that - at present - experience orbs will not have a practical use until 1.9.  Further, while villages will be generated, they will be curiously absent of a population.  How eerie!  We will continue to provide information as it surfaces, including the release of 1.8!  Stay tuned! A short while ago, Notch talked about some of the exciting behavioral changes in animals for 1.8 - most notably, how they will now flee when attacked, rather than stand there and stare at you.  This ended up having the added effect of wolf attacks looking more "natural", in a sense, as prey would now flee its attacker, rather than look around blankly and grunt.  He went on to say that - due in part to the behavioral changes, and a desire to see more dynamic mob-to-mob interactions - he is beginning a super-secret weekend project!  What does it entail?

We'll have the details when they're ready! Back to Top

Jeb recently mentioned that 1.8 will most likely not be released on September 8th, to allow time for more thorough testing and quality assurance.  Still, there seems to be a careful optimism regarding the release date - while it may not be on the 8th, it will still likely be in the near future.

On a more positive note, the PNG file containing the new food and "experience" effects was released, take a look!

Notch posted a new screenshot of two new additions to the game!  The first is quite apparent (the opened chest lid) - can you spot the second one?

Check it out!

Edit:  Not long after the first picture was released, Jeb offered up the following gem - vines!

This brief video - uploaded by Jeb - shows the remarkable difference between a normal walking-speed jump, and a sprint-charged jump!  The distance a player can jump is at least twice what it would be normally, which opens up a lot of navigation possibilities!  Take a look!

Additionally, Notch uploaded a picture of the updated pig model - they now have snouts!
