Notch mentioned another addition to the 1.8 Adventure Update - hold-to-charge bow mechanics.  We may very soon see the inclusion of variable-damage weapon mechanics as a result.  Whether this will be restricted solely to bow weapons or not remains to be seen.

Notch mentioned today that the 1.7.3 update is out, fixing numerous bugs and oddities.  The list includes:

- Corrected a block duplication bug when using pistons
- Corrected a redstone torch duplication bug when using pistons
- Corrected a client crash when placing a sign in front of the piston, powering the piston and then removing the block beneath the sign
- Ice blocks are now pushed without causing water streams breaking everything
- Booster rails are no longer being powered magically without a power source
- Pistons connected to the end of a piston-transistor via redstone are now properly closed when the power goes out
- Doors no longer create purple particles
- Hacking clients can no longer edit texts of placed signs in multiplayer
- Changed so that paintings pushed by pistons will pop off

Roller coasters have been a part of Minecraft for a long time.  With the addition of numerous features, they have evolved quite a bit.  TheGameKid shows us one such creation, a winding, meticulous creation of pistons, powered tracks and more.  Definitely worth watching to the end - enjoy! Yesterday, we saw a real-life 3D printer creating art from data streamed in from Minecraft itself.  Today, we see its in-game counterpart:  a 3D printer, built inside the game!  shrogg has constructed a fully functioning 3D printer, complete with a tour of its inner workings, and a demonstration of its capabilities.  Enjoy! Cody Sumter and Jason Boggess of the MIT Media Lab have something special on offer - 3D print-outs of Minecraft scenes and objects.  Using a custom Python script, they are able to model a specific zone of blocks within a defined range, and bring them into the real world via 3D printing.  How does it work?  You have to see it for yourself! Notch recently revealed more information regarding the 1.8 Adventure Update.  The following things have been confirmed for the update's release:

  • NPC Villages
  • Randomly generated dungeons
  • New biome code
  • Fully functioning Creative mode (with Creative-type access to server mods/admins)
  • Critical hits
  • Sprinting
  • More farming options
  • Brightness slider

He also mentioned that mod support was definitely being worked on, but that information on the update as a whole would be kept under a tight lid, to avoid revealing too many surprises.

Notch recently mentioned that the ability to sprint may be added in the 1.8 Adventure Update.  He is currently considering options to keep it balanced, but seems that its inclusion is highly likely, as he found it "fun and addictive".  There are numerous possible methods for implementation - some suggestions have included a stamina bar, sprinting shoes or limited directional control while sprinting.
