Vareide gives us a look into what could easily be the scariest Minecraft map ever made! Think you can handle it, knowing that it terrified both Vareide and the Yogscast itself?

I don't know - I've played around with a few frightening mechanics in Mystery of the Pumpkin Castle, and yet I don't think true horror is that easy to achieve in the game, haha.

Maybe I'm wrong, but hey, we'll see when I play it. ^_^

I have been waiting for something like this, for such a long time... Nice!

This map is great. It did in fact terrify me and I suppose you can argue that it's one of the scariest maps of the game!

I'm sorry, but you can't just make Minecraft scary... unless you count cave noises...

I'm surprised actually NOBODY has made a decent Slender map, as old as it is. But still, just replace a music disk with static (/playsound) and play with mob mechanics. Would do it myself... but I don't know much about mob mechanics, redstone on the other hand...

EDIT: Noticed the words "scared" and "Yogcast". Are you kidding me? Just throwing a Domo at them will scare them...

Yes, I drew my avatar. I draw other things too!

Yogscast? Who is that?

This was a pretty creative map even though the concept was done before by another video game if I am remembering correctly. There were a couple of shock moments so that was good and the sounds were impressively done for an adventure map. I do say that with all of the recent updates for Minecraft. I eagerly look forward to seeing how adventure maps evolve over time. The updates really did make the game into a console. It could literally transcend genres.

Of course you can make Minecraft scary. With a good use of the power of suggestion and surprise, and with deadly traps or mobs that kill you in one hit, you can even turn a bright, happy blocky world into a pit of fear and death. That sweet pink pig can be your terror if it can suddenly stand behind you and kill you with one oink. If you then only hear that oink from a distance, well... ;)

I mean, the famous Slender game is also nothing more then a simple dark forest where you only have to find eight pages. There is no blood and gore, Slendermen does not look too scary and the graphics are not that high end. But it still does scare many people, because you know that Slenderman can be around every corner to kill you. The sounds effect are just making the experience more intens.

This is a pretty scary map indeed, especially with the shock effects (however, Herobrine is a little bit cliche of course) but I think that it would be way much scary if there were actually some invisible deadly traps, so that every step can be your death. But without traps or mobs (and even without costum sounds and resource packs), you can also make a scary ride and this map proves that very well in my opinion.

Death kind of ruins it unless you're at the end of the map.
For example I'd rather die from a sudden unexpected drop rather than have Herobrine kill you or have unfindable traps.

But invis traps would make a good maze map.

It depends indeed on what kind of map you wants to make. If you want to make just a road trip, like this map, then you don't want to kill the player untill maybe at the end. However, if the player knows that it is a road trip, he then can just rush through the map without fear if he wants. Because there is nothing that can happen to him anyway. So he should never know that, or the scenes must be so scary, that he will be in shock even if he runs through them. In Minecraft however that is quite hard to do, because then the actual scene has to scare you and not the suggestion or surprise.

But if you want to make it a kind of parcour or survival map, then traps and mobs are not a problem and can make the experience even more intense. Just like Slender Game would not be that scary if Slenderman was not there, or if you knew that it was only suggested that he could be there, just to make you afraid.

Scariest Minecraft Map Ever.

If you helped anyone, I will +1 your post, especially if the person you helped didn't.

Honestly, I don't see what the fuss is about. That had jump-scares, not real scares. Real scares are things you think about in dark rooms after having them, where as jump-scares are cheap, and can be caused by anything that you don't expect.

I actually think the Calmere nightmare maps were more scary, in the 'dark and sinister', and 'Uncanny Valley' way, but that's just me. This is a good map for what it is, but hardly the scariest map ever.
Plus there was definitely a -1 for the storyline, in the fact that it had the common: 'It was all just a dream' thing going on, which effectively nullifies everything that happened beforehand.
Lol I agree. but you left out Variede... Variede is good at masking scary things in his animations, so this map will probably make me [s]make me pee my pants[/s] scared because I get scared just installing the Herobrine mod, so I think it will be scary for me.
