Still Confused About the New Skin System?
There have been a lot of questions about the new skin system - how to use it, how the layers work, how to make new skins - and Docm77 is here to answer them! This video explains how to transfer your 1.7 skin to Minecraft 1.8, and how to create your own custom skin with simple and free tools. Enjoy!
You will have to manually cut and paste the jacket/sleeve layers if you use the online editor he said.
agreed
When is this being implemented?

Does this new format apply to mobs and armors as well?
I have a problem with my skin. Everything appears to be fine, except for my left arm (not the sleeve, but the arm). Here's the skin I uploaded:I thought I put the texture of the left arm where it's supposed to be, but no matter how long I wait and restart Minecraft 14w05a...I don't understand why it still isn't showing my left arm. Did I draw it wrong? Or is it still stuck showing my previously uploaded skin, which I forgot to put it in...First question: Minecraft 1.8, and in snapshots of said update.
Second Question: Not currently
Yes but when, as in how much actual time have I got? Dates and such, ye know?
Exact date is unknown, but I expect between the end of February and end of March.
Okay
Why doesn't mojang just stick with the old….
Everything changes. If they don't make a single change, you'll get bored and end up giving up on the game. Changes are a natural part of everything. Mojang has taken a step in the right direction with this, and you've only got a few choices with it. Get over it and move on, never update, or just quit. I suggest the first one, though. :]
lol
Since 1.8 is still in snapshots, the new skin format is not added yet. Also, the skin server is backward compatible, so if you don't upload a new skin, it will work fine, though not auto-convert.
