1.7 Sneak Peek: Sunflowers, Falling Particles
One of the curiosities of Minecraft has always been compass directions. The in-game compass has not ever pointed north, but rather at the player's spawn point. Most people generally assumed that east and west was easily determined by the sun and moon rising and setting, but other things - like cloud movement - always added to the confusion. So, who has the answer?
The humble sunflower!
While many of the upcoming developments of 1.7 have been kept under wraps, Jeb revealed this delightful addition to the game, which is confirmed to always face east! Very nice!
Dinnerbone also gave us a brief look into an upcoming feature which will help with immersion - impact particles! Basically, if you fall more than a certain distance, then you will generate particles from the impact of whatever block you land on. Sweet!
Keep an ear to the ground, because there is a lot more coming up, and you don't want to miss it!
Thanks! I was wondering if pics had already been released.
I shall be making use of the sunflowers and whatever those purple plants be in my new park. Little adds a lot when you care.
Also those people saying Minecraft can't freely update itself with new blocks can go to hell, or the nether. If you don't like it then go back to your preferred version in the launcher and let those actually having fun have fun. Go home trolls, you're full of crap. This isn't a popularity contest nor do you have to impress others for trolling. Just enjoy Minecraft and the new updated content, or don't.
Minecraft's strong point is that it constantly stays fresh with new contently being added in both vanilla and modded.
Edit your first post, don't double post, and chill it with the caps and the rude tone xD. Anyways, have YOU ever modded? Have YOU ever coded a game? How can you say how long it takes for something so complex can be done when you've never done it yourself? They're working what's looking like it might be the largest update since the Adventure Update, and some of you people actually have the nerve to say this sorta thing, to such small, early tidbits of info about something much bigger? And those 'big features' like dragons and panda's were never, ever confirmed, so don't spread rumors. On another note, another new flower and a new animation http://instagram.com/p/dE8ljlJMLb/
I was only trying to state my opinion, sheesh. Dragons would be really cool, much cooler than flowers, but as the guy above me said, they weren't confirmed.
Yes he is.
That kind of work would take Minecraft to 2.7
Have you ever played a Hypixel map? Think of the awesome possibilities for new maps he could make using those features. They're adding plenty of new features to survival, 99% of them are still behind curtains, and you're critisizing the small, aesthetic tidbits that we're getting now. I bet by the time this update is released, you and most of the community will be loving it. And then I can say 'I told you so'
You obviously haven't been keeping up to date, or you'd have seen all the new biomes, and the confirmation that we'll have several new mobs. This is what everyone thought 1.6 was going to be like. Also, could you please link proof that dragons and panda's were confirmed, because I can link proof they haven't been :D. Also, what is this mod, and do you have proof for how long it took? I'd love to know And just because they haven't given us any news for two months, you assume they haven't been working? Thats funny xD
You need to listen to their twitter more (and I hate that this topic only mentions these two simple additions). Aside from the fact that they're adding sunflowers and falling particles, they're essentially adding a plethora of new biomes and overhauling the terrain generator; something which has been anticipated by a large portion (especially the pre b1.8 kiddies) of the community for many updates; and you think dragons and features that you anticipate are more important, even when you consider that those features may require other additions first for them to even work as they should (for instance, without some sort of a bamboo forest biome, what's the point of adding pandas? Or without an overhaul to the lighting system, what would be the point of tinted glass? And dragons have a whole plethora of problems associated with them; I really just wish Notch just forgot about the End and the Ender Dragon and stuck with the Sky dimension).
100 new mobs? Seriously? You know how much it would take to balance them all out? Most of us here don't think the game should be clouded with a whole bunch of new mobs that are useless aside from scenery and possibly providing meat.
Woops sorry, I suppose your right. I guess I was just hoping there was something more to the sunflower than just showing direction, you know?
They aren't confirmed. They're a popular idea. Notch was throwing ideas around one day and people added that stuff to the wiki to always be a possible addition and to gives others ideas.
I love how you only respond to one sentence, knowing that I'm right in every single point Also, pretty sure that if something is coded or built inside minecraft its part of it

Oh, and here's my proof:
Do either of those lines state '*mob* will be added in a future update'?
Jesus, what is this forum, a bunch of 5 year olds?
Suggest it on Reddit or find a way to up-vote nice ideas so Dinnerbone and Jeb can add them. If it gets upvoted enough they'll look at it and do keep in mind you have people who want Minecraft to stay the old way without improving so you'll have to fight that as well.
They need to take small steps to make sure stuff works.
Well... and they've been busy lately. Holidays and events.
Awesome! Loving these little updates that'll join the biomes and such. Time to make use of my green thumb and make a nice looking park heh. I still want to know what's the tall purplish-white plant that looks like cotton, or is cotton. Quite neat. Always did find flowers on the limited side so glad they're being enlarged in variety.
You....you do realize that this is just the opening announcement for the update, right?
The update will contain more than just some flowers and a particle effect.
