It would be awesome if you could use a wii-remote like object and actually swing to swing your sword, or hold it sideways to block.

Cool, but eh, I'll stick to simple old keyboard and mouse/controller gaming with a normal monitor. Motion controls like this are cool and all, but I don't really see them replacing what we have, simply because it already works wonders. It's certainly a neat little thing, but the "wow" factor can only last so long, as demonstrated by the Wii, PS Move and Kinect.

I do support the work put into it, though. I can only wonder what may come next.
The motion control is only to add a sense of realism to the camera's movement, following your head's rotation.  You still play with a keyboard and mouse.  Think of it as a more immersive monitor that's 3d and covers your peripheral vision.

That is some pretty awesome build :)

The Oculus Rift part seems kind of interesting too.

I made the mistake of trying to watch this while eating my lunch.
Re: 3D Minecraft - Anyone tried it?

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.

Yeah, in that sense, that's why it's certainly cool. But I think I'm too used to monitors being used for games and similar forms of entertainment, while the whole immersive view is more so reserved for outside activities. :P Maybe I'm just too afraid of being sick with this sort of view, just like with 3D, though. I'll see if I ever get to try one out in person.

Yeah, i think monitors are for games, and the whole immersive view is for your eyes.

that is exactly what i was thinking. if the minecraft rift starting version came with super hd shaders and smart moving mod i wouldn't be able to tell if life or minecraft was real.

To be honest, the Oculus Rift doesn't excite me very much. It seems like a gimmick, at most. Don't get me wrong, it's a neat idea... I just can't see it being widely used.
