Time for this week's Snapshot, 13w24a! Comprised mainly of bugfixes, there are a few goodies - or, in the case of textures, laying the foundation for goodies - in store, however!
FEATURES:
- Removed Texture Pack support, added Resource Packs
- Added new gamerule for day-night cycle
- Things and stuff
BUGFIXES:
- Mobs spawn and then quickly despawn in peaceful. Looks like the "ender-porting-out-of-water" effect.
- You can't get "The End?" achievement
- Persistence required tag freezes mobs
- Squids taking damage while in water
- Hard to spawn Squids
- Scoreboard "health" objective set to display "belowname" disconnecting player on multiplayer with end of stream
- Lava texture animation moves too fast / Animated textures ignoring text files
WAIT, MY TEXTURE PACKS LOOK ALL BROKEN AND WRONG AND...:
Nope, there is a new texture system now in place, in preparation for the future of the Mod API!
Quote fromWe’ve been working really hard on the new Resource Pack system, and we think it’s at the point where we can finally push it live. This is a huge step forward for the future mod API and will replace texture packs.
Unfortunately, texture packs will no longer be supported but you can use this fancy tool to automatically convert them! Please report all issues about resource packs, and the snapshot in general, to our bug tracker!
Of course though, even the new texture pack system had a good purpose. I'm glad they did it for the sake of not having to patch the game every time I wanted a new texture pack that had textures larger than 16 square pixels. I should too mention that the new texture pack system has also allowed for us to have animated textures supposedly. Just as had happened before, as a result of taking away some of the earlier simplicity, they've allowed for the system to become more dynamic and more controllable.
Seriously? ...
Big fancy mcmeta files and their brackets and curly brackets don't seem necessary for simple animations...
Just download it and open/run it with java. Then select your texture pack and click "convert packs".
Cause this seems really silly to me,
Eh, there seems to be a reason for it, lets just see where this goes.
Most passive mobs have age systems... They do have a lot, but it's not bad at all.
So, if/after the snapshots goes live in the form of an update, will the Texture Packs section be renamed to Resource Packs?
To summarize, it basically makes droppers be able to place disks into jukeboxes, allowing for redstone controlled music. Great for adventure maps, and with the new resource pack, imagine what mapmakers could do with that addition. For example, epic battle music could automatically start as zombies pour through the door.
I'm really hoping someone at Mojang sees this and implements it, so I can use all the support I can get.
