A bit of a deviation from the usual Snapshot, this one is an early look at 1.5.1 - which contains a number of fixes and tweaks for 1.5 - before its release next week. What does it have?
- Ender Dragon can still grief stuff like cobblestone and chests even if the gamerule mobGriefing is set on false.
- White stitching on polygon edges / White lines or black dots between blocks
- Unable to combine enchanted books for a higher level enchant.
- Hopper doesn't try to place items from other slots if unable from first.
- Fire doesn't show on 8 layered snow and hopper
- Long scoreboard objective titles can be offset screen
- Breaking a Container with Items that is connected via a solid block with a Comparator does not update the Comparator
- Falling Block entities start visually falling from 1 block higher than they were placed
- Paintings popping out / cannot place new ones
- a few Minecraft Realms changes
Bad Snapshot.
I have a Dev Craftbukkit, and WorldEdit Dev-Snapshot with no bugs;
They work pretty well.
So are you saying this happened when you tried to use the snapshot or 1.5 update? Because when I updated my minecraft on both of my macs it got stuck on the Mojang screen, but I then just closed the window and relaunched minecraft and it loaded just fine after that... I have OSX 10.7.5 and 10.6.8
there is no land in sight.
If you play on a big server, I'd advise just sticking with 1.5. You have access to updated texture packs, optifine, server plugins, etc. However, if any of the snapshot features really catch your eye, it's worth it to test.

So, you actually think that major versions are bug-free ? They are just snapshots given a final stage release number, before something new is implemented. Oh, yes, they are also full of bugs like any other snapshot. You can check it out on minecraft wiki. Also I think that the next snapshot is actually LESS buggy than the final version before it, as you can see in this example with MC1.5.1 - right here. 1.5 official has white dots, 1.5.1 no white dots - less bugs (bugs found in 1.5 are now gone) But the bugs aren't such big things, and are kinda hard to encounter if you don't know where to look...
This is actually a constantly changing piece of code, and will never be finished - as I see it, never absolutly bug free (as any other software out there)
