Daniel Kaplan, Mojang's Business Developer, tweeted a video today of the first look at Minecraft: Pocket Edition, a version of Minecraft designed to be played on Android devices.

In a blog post about the newest version of the game, Daniel stated that, "I can promise you, it has been worth the wait".

While the Xperia Play is targeted to be the first device to receive Minecraft: Pocket Edition, other Android devices and even iOS devices are also expected to support the game at a later date.

Sony and Mojang are presumed to be showing off the newest title during the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) in early June.

Awesome! Although it looks like Classic Right now...hopefully you wont have to buy it though that's suck! But good work so far!

It looks awesome but I think it would be easier if they made X left click O right click Sqaure and/or triangle to sneak, because the right joystick used for placing seems very unpractical.

This definitly needs bluetooth support in android so a wiimote with classic controller can be used. i really hope they think of that

Doesnt need bluetooth to be supported IN the game.

As long as the phone supports it, you just use the wiimote app. Can make any game use it :)

Same here. I have one of the US versions of the Galaxy S (captivate) and I hope notch releases it to the whole galaxy S line up.

I hope it supports everything that the Pc version has, so your minecraft world becomes portable.
Rather cool actually, I was looking to buy the phone anyway and this may push me over the edge to get it.

Yet another reason why I need a cell phone.

It works, but it doesn't look very practical.

Is there anyword on Mojang bring this to the iTouch/iPhone, or is there a reason why it's, so far, only on Android devices?

Not a fan of this.

1) It looks dodgy.. the speeded up video of making a basic hut has be worried.. doesn't fill me with confidence of the interface.

2) Some people have serious problems with sitting on their asses for days on end playing minecraft non stop. This will only allow them to play when they need to go on the toilet.

In a perfect world this would let them go out.. meet some nice girls and boys in the real world while still playing... still, its wrong.

I'm just afraid of minecraft becomming the new World of Warcraft were people lock themselves away from the real world to play. Sadness, and reflects badly socially for normal gamers who play.

3) Minecraft isn't a mobile game... as you idealy need a decent screen to play as its a WORLD based game that requires alot of time to play and mine...time is something mobile devices arn't good at due to connection costs and battery life. I would have thought a basic minecraft client for phones so players can log into their servers to do basic maintaince things would be great...but for actually playing outright only on a phone... don't think it would work.

Personally if anything I feel this should be aimed at tablets and not phones, Minecraft has evolved from a basic Java game, but meh.. I think a version of minecraft for console players (xbox and ps3 - not the wii as we all know thats aimed at stupid parents with stupid children) should come before a mobile port of the game.

Just my 2 cents.
