Mojang also had the following to add regarding installation of Snapshots:
Quote fromThe snapshots can potentially destroy your save games, even though we try our best not to do that. Only use them if you know what you are doing. To “install” a snapshot, you download the JAR file and replace the one located in your “application data” folder. The easiest way to find that folder is to start the game, select “texture packs” and click on the “open texture pack folder” button. It will locate “.minecraft/texturepacks”, and the JAR file should be placed in “.minecraft/bin”.
To UNINSTALL the snapshot, start the launcher (Minecraft.exe on Windows) and click the “options” button. Then click on “force update” and login as usual. The launcher will then download the official JAR file for you. Note that save games created in the snapshot may not work (and probably doesn’t) in the official version of the game.
K, now goto the little search option (usually one your start menu) and type in: %appdata% and press enter, find the .minecraft folder, double click it, then double click the .bin folder.
Now drag the new snapshot from the downloads section, and into the .bin. Rename your current jar (should be called minecraft) something random, and rename the snapshot "minecraft" and then your all set to go!
1. Getting XP from ores and other blocks is NOT a bug
2. Temples spawning in the wrong biomes is a pretty bad bug, but it seems that they will only spawn in deserts and jungles so this will most definitely be fixed by the next update.
3. The enchanting system is not yet complete so stop complaining.
4. the potions menu IS messed up and there will be a fix
5. People who are complaining about how RPG minecraft is getting. the old minecraft is still there, just ignore the new RPG features, you don't HAVE to use them. As for the 'old minecraft' not getting developed? be patient, Jeb_ can only focus on so many things at once, he will improve the minecraft we once had, just not at the moment.
6. People who are wondering/complaining about the SMP and SSP merge as well as demanding less snapshots and more updates. the merging of SMP and SSP is a HUGE job, it is a really big project and he is trying to make sure that it works flawlessly and that takes more time then you think, the next update will come out when he has perfected this. You can't (as far as I'm aware) yet invite people to your singleplayer worlds
7. Adventure mode. Adventure mode was created for map makers. It was not designed to be used as a playable gamemode, that is why you can't create a world in Adventure Mode. To get into Adventure mode just type /gamemode 2 <playername> and that should switch it over.
8. Any and all mob problems. There seems to be quite a few errors as far as mobs. the only one that i have found so far is zombies in villages. when they all crowd around a door and you get some lag the seem to drift off along this side of the house, even going beyond that for quite a ways, when the lag clears out they will jump back to the door. Also i noticed that animals don't spawn naturally in superflat worlds, I'm hoping this is a bug but i don't know.
9. Changes to the enchanting system overall. At the moment I don't like how easy it is to XP from mining, but this will doubtlessly change in either the next update or snapshot, remember that these snapshots are buggy so the enchanting isn't done being recoded.
10. Emerald Ore. I believe that it is plenty hard to find, emeralds are meant to be currency traded villagers, not an ore you set out to find, however due to how rare it is it counts as a 'nice find' rather then something you make a point of to mine.
11. Installing snapshots. Just google a tutorial on how to install them, its not that hard.
12. Modding API. Mojang is creating the Modding API out of the goodness of their hearts for modders, and modders alone, this won't improve the game at all, it will just make it easier for people who like edit the game to do just that.
13. Reload chunks. The reload chunks is a really handy feature for people who get a lot of chunk errors so that they don't have to relog or reload. However using it to find caves and such isn't an error but something that should be fixed, however that would also mean more lag.
How do I know all of this? because I have spent a lot of time checking out the snapshot. I have spent a lot of time following mojang, what they are doing and the like. I am also a programmer so I understand how the game is made, why Jeb_ does things and how he does them. Thank you for reading, if this helped you please press the little green up arrow at the bottom right hand side of the screen.
(Glad to see your back Minecraft_Queen)
When you hover your mouse over that area. You will see "Destroy Item" tag displaying in the button right corner even if your not on the Survival inventory tab.
XD yep I do, I'm in 8th grade and teaching myself batch, lua, java and VBS so yes, it is mindblowing how complicated this stuff can get
All that 1.3 needs is some new mobs, like mummies for pyramids, then we have the best update ever.
Jump in and give it a test!
Great Job Mojang!
Yes, it should, but there is no reason to be a grammar police.
What purpose would that serve?
That was fixed at some point but apparently it's broken again. I think it was fixed around 1.8
I used to describe a gametype almost exactly like "Adventure Mode" when explaining to people what a good optional game type should look like. I'll be interested to see as it improves how close to my prediction they come.
