Over the last week in Snapshots, we have seen a lot of exciting things coming up - Ender Chests, villager trading, the merging of SSP and SMP modes into a fluid, single system - what else could possibly be added to this pile of goodies to make it even better? We can think of one thing - tripwires.
Nathan "Dinnerbone" Adams uploaded this video showing off some experiments with tripwire - it appears that it can be set off by crossing the tripwire boundary (as expected), as well as being set off by "using" it much as one would use a switch or button. What other awesome features are on the horizon? We'll keep you posted as they develop!

A Minecraft Wedding
Anyone in attendance at Minecon 2011 will undoubtedly remember - Matt's proposal to Asia on-stage, alongside Mojang! Their marriage is now official, and the wedding ceremony was something any dedicated Minecraft fan could be proud of - Minecraft-themed Jones Soda, which features many of the in-game items and creatures; a number of high-quality character model statues that were on the showroom at Minecon including Steve, creeper and more. There were also a number of hand-made pieces for their ceremony made by the happy couple and friends, such as Minecraft trees and other bits of the world. Other gems included a Minecraft-diamond necklace, and - something no Minecraft party should be without - a Minecraft cake.
From everyone here at the Minecraft Forum, we would like to congratulate Matt and Asia on having easily the most awesome wedding in history, and wish the happy couple well!

And a minecraft wedding?! ahahah pffft what a nerd! he'll never get a girlfriend.
well, tripwires will allow for a much wider distance of activation, with much less visible or underground wiring.
Also, tripwires will be able to be in the air, meaning the block under them can be moved (unlike pressure plates) meaning it will be much easier making a falling trap.
Tripwires would also be able to be placed where pressure plates cannot, such as above water, non-blocks, and above hatches. Which will all now can be used for traps. (Water because of the fact dispensers will be able to take water source blocks)
Sure, you can use pressure plates instead, but under the assumption that mobs (or players) are going to continue walking past pressure plates to go into a trap, instead of the activation happening above the trap.
String doesn't have much use, so I have like 4-5 stacks of it usually..... where wood has many important uses...
Yeah. I think It'll be for traps mainly, or more "silent" and flexible activations for things. I probably would use it for opening doors, especially if they make tripwires silent. I also want to make things were you walk past a tripwire, and pistons automatically activate. Actually, a group of tripwires that activated a secret door when you sprinted past them would be pretty cool.
So altogether, almost like an upgrade from pressure plates.
Because not everyone uses mods.
If you've been paying attention, you'd know that Dinnerbone has already reworked boats, including lilypads. Boats now break lilypads instead of the other way around.
Why add horses, that sounds pointless to me.
And more like you:
"Why add horse when a horses mod has already been made"
That brings up the pause menu yes, but the game continiues to run. Mobs will continiue to attack including creeper splosions, food will degenerate yada yada yada. On a game where the craft recipes must be found outside the game, lack of ability to pause is just outright mental.

But guess what?! THE TEXTURE! THE PIXELS! IT DOESNT FIT WITH THE GAME! Pixels that small are meant to be in an HD texture pack. Do you understand? It doesn't fit with the game, and if you fix it, then they have no use. So over all they just shouldn't be in the game at all. AT ALL.
I'm not even going to touch the people who are bitching about the snapshots. If you don't like it, just don't upgrade anymore, or stop whining. And the snapshots are made for finding bugs. If you don't like the bugs, don't get the snapshots.
Also, I don't know what you guys at mojang can do about this, but when you break wooden stairs on the XBLA version, the drop a wooden block. Not even the six you need to craft the stairs, just one, and it's annoying, because it means I have to make more stairs and waist wood. Posting it here so I don't have to hunt down where it would be more appropriate too
Woah. Calm down there. Sure, the texture for the stone rings on the tripwire arms probably should be 3x3 because they are smaller. But Dinnerbone didn't quite understand this when you were harassing him and just said "But... but... but it's not 16x16 pixels...".You see, all of the textures are under 16x16 pixels. But I see what you're saying, the ring model is smaller, so even though it is only 6x6 pixels, it looks somewhat out of place.
You've got to understand though, a 3x3 texture for the ring would look really flat.... it would do more harm than it would good to lower the resolution of the ring. If it bothers you though, you can always lower the resolution yourself by modifying the textures.
Dinnerbone has already explained to you why tripwires are going to be added. You just have spent too much time whining about them to think about any good uses for them. They are much different from pressure plates, and I have already explained a few key uses of tripwires that wouldn't work using pressure plates.
So please, stop harassing Mojang staff, and stop making the community look bad.
Um. I'm pretty sure that the OP stated that these are up coming features....snapshots are effectively for bug testing, yes? Snapshots are not the actual update, yes? I'm pretty sure getting shitty at the snapshot because it has bugs is like getting pissed off that water is wet WHY IS IT NOT DRY??!
Chill bro, revert to the proper update until this one is completed if you can't provide anything worthwhile to this other than your unhelpful opinion. Or go create a blog or something and complain about wet water on there.
On another note, tripwires are pretty cool. They may not have too many other uses than say pressure pads but they look a hell of a lot cooler and there ain't nothin' wrong with that.
Now I am going to sit and ponder what other ways I can use these upcoming features in my build on the server I play on. And to the dumbaft on first page who said "stop including stuff that no one wants." I want this. So please speak for yourself not for others.
Looking forward to 1.3.
keep up the good work Mojang.
Oh and look to tropicraft for inspiration. they have by far the nicest undersea animals I have seen so far.
edit: typos. forgive me.. I was having some wine just before posting
There probably are more than one team, one would probably handle bugs while another adds new features
Then why did he get married?
There is a section on the wiki that shows what might come in later MC versions
Dinnerbone is working on it, and it already does that (it doesn't need a block under it). -source
No, not really. Dinnerbone has already pretty much finished it, and it will be in the next snapshot, so it's more than a suggestion.
Hmm , tripwire trap , pistons open up a 4x4 hole under it , drops down into a obsidian lined pit filled with water , delay on pistons to close over the water level (can't move obsidian with pistons though...would have to be something else)...trapping the poor monster or person to die a horrible death...
I do see them using tripwire in the new pyramid structure for sure , or maybe other places , like in the old mine tunnels...
