Emerald Blocks on the Way?
Jeb released this teaser image moments ago - it seems that emerald blocks could be a reality in the next big update! Alongside the already highly-anticipated villager trading, slight minecart control, and a host of other features and fixes, 1.3 is already shaping up to be a solid winner.
The most recent snapshot covered some of these features already, including the versatile Ender Chest, which lets you set up a sort of post-box to exchange items between over long distances; stackable buckets, more realistic star textures, dispensers having the ability to eject water or lava from buckets placed within them, and much more.
What else is coming? Well, we can't say just yet, but in the meantime, enjoy this TNT cake, made by Minecraft Chick!
He's removing the ore. The blocks and item is staying.
And Jeb (Yes, I know he doesn't read the forums..), don't let idiots tell you what to do, you help make it, and these others don't. I mean, you didn't change the functionality of Enderchests on SMP, why change the Emerald Ore / blocks. I will go with whatever you add to the game.
And about emerald dye.... that would be cool! Don't say "Oh, well Emeralds aren't soft", well Endermen don't exist in the real world either...
Also, about the Tripwire thing, Dinnerbone tweeted about it earlier. https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/207154292593917952

No need to be a jerk about it
Wow, you really think he removed the ore because people complained it was too rare? Why not make it more common then? Makes tons more sense to do it that way. I bet he has a logical reason for removing the ore instead of removing it because people complained.
What does that mean?
So then, Endermen can have whatever characteristics they want, as they aren't based on real life.
Endermen can drop green dye, that would be cool!
Because if you're going to add something from real life, but then make them unrealistic and something they aren't, what is the point of that?
Why even add it in the first place? Games are more fun when the players can actually somewhat relate to the game, or connect it to the real world.
Ever heard of an opinion? You have? Well, yours isn't the only one that matters. Beta 1.8 may have been the best update for YOU, but some of us are really looking forward to 1.3.
Minecraft contradicts that.
1: Apparently water and lava both have "Sources?"
2: Making potions to have "Fire Resistance" or golden apples that do this..
3: Enchantments for your tools...
Non of that is realistic, however it still exists in the game. 2 of them were from real life.
Did you see his Twitter:
I'm sorry, but it's really annoying to get the same complaint over and over again. This way it's less confusion; emeralds are only currency
Many complain that emerald ore is too rare. It's intended to be a "nice find," not the main way to gain currency. Will remove it again.
Theres the link. No need to be rude.
Touche. But it's just as I thought. Instead of raising the rarity he removed it completely. It's the argument that I've been presenting all day and people haven't quite got it yet. getting Emeralds by just mining would kinda ruin the whole idea of the trading system, and that's what people don't understand. "Emeralds should be more common that way we don't have to use the trading mechanic to get them. Doing things the way it's meant to be is so stupid." Yeah, if Jeb had made Emeralds more common he would be babying players.
It doesn't matter. There is some level of realism to Minecraft. There is grass, dirt, and trees, just like real life, although they just look different. Blocky? So what. Doesn't mean the game should ignore realism completely. Realism even on the smallest scale helps a player feel more comfortable with the game. There are Diamonds? Yes, and they are very rare, and durable, just like real life. You don't need to play the game to figure that out.
No, 1. Unless they've invented enchanting or drinks that allow the drinker to endure heat?
Those are added for the gameplay value and ease (both developmental and gameplay).
Sure they could add in finite liquids. But it would take a while to make some thing that is balanced.
And, I'm sure not having infinite water would upset people (some people were mad when they added and then removed infinite lava!).
There's a mod for both of those:
