It’s time for the weekly snapshot. Mojang is continuing to work on separating the client from the server, and has fixed a bunch of stuff related to that transition. What else got added? Check it out below:
- Added cocoa plants to jungles
- Added a “large biomes” world type
- Added specific names for the different sandstone and smooth stone blocks
Improvements continue to pour into each snapshot with every passing week, and the new, improved SSP/SMP system continues to be streamlined, adopting a feel not unlike what MCX360 currently uses to connect players to one-another. Want to try this sleek update out?

Client: Download here
Server: Download here
The client now comes with both the client-side and the server-side JAR files. The file called “minecraft.jar” should be in your “.minecraft/bin” folder as usual, and the “minecraft_server.jar” file should be in a folder called “.minecraft/server”.
1 - You extract the zip file into your .minecraft directory. The minecraft.jar file and the server files will drop into the proper places on their own, problem solved. No more McCoy quotes. Sure there are some other issues out there, but this one is sad. It's not the same as the other releases. You can't just plop the zip file where you used to plop the jar file. It has to be extracted so that the two jar files fall into the proper directories.
2 - Some of us... JUST CHILL OUT! The server/client split... other games have been doing this for over a decade... the client runs in the foreground, the server runs as a background process. I think Quake did this first in 1996. It does not require an internet connection to do this. YOU JUST RUN IT. No worries about hackers trying to invade. At this point, you can't even invite anyone into any SP game. You would have to run the "minecraft_server.exe" program (or alternate OS equivalent), which *would* be much slower on the same machine. Before you freak out and spam the forums next time, take the time to try it out first.
i think you might be able to do it by portforwarding but im not too sure.now to go along with the larger biome(oceans) i think they need to add larger customizable boats that will move under the power of sail and all you have to do is steer them that way you don't break your forward key while holding it down for hours on end.
try the seed 7319697500799939733 there is a mushroom biome right when you turn around.
Except, we already tried it out and the problem is that right now in Minecraft with this snapshot an internet connection IS REQUIRED. You cannot play even single player unless you are connected to the internet. This is with the regular minecraft.bin not the minecraft_server.bin. If you start a single player world and your internet connection is interrupted, the game kicks you out and you CANNOT play at all unless you connect to the internet again.
The game runs with latency lag, so creepers are closer than they appear and they blow up before you can kill them.
Reminds me of the Yogscast when they do their map plays. They have a hard time killing a simple zombie without getting hit, because of the latency and they have INSANE PC's with super fast internet connections...
oh wellzz...
It means SSP is from now on, gone. you will be playing MC on a server and people on your local network can join that map. say you have a network with 3 computers on it.
they all have minecraft
one person sets up a world on single player.
the other 2 are annoying and join to annoy you while Minecraft is the only time you can get away from them.
win/win cuz you can ban them
Here is exactally what the error says..... quoted post is my post btw..... "Unfortunately we can't automagically downlad the server for this snapshot. GO download the server, and extract it to: *insert file name* When you're done, hit okay to try again!"Ooops I didn't know my two posts would be connected.... now I know.
yay! i wont download the snapshot i want to wait till the final patch and optifine AA gets updated for it. but will check out the video!
When you downloaded the snapshot, there should have been two folders in it. Server, and bin. Drag the server folder into your .minecraft folder then hit okay on MC. Hope I helped And I think thats what it is.. Tell me if it works now. If it still doesnt work, then uhh try downloading it again maybe...Thats for PC btw

XD thats hilarious. So strange... Ive had a couple weird things like that happen to me too in this snapshot, like the world swallowed me up and I fell in the void XD
When you generate a new world with the options "Bonus Chest" ON, then there are Torches next to the bonus chest now.
The Seed I used was "minecraft" (without the quotes).
Don't remove META-INF from the server/minecraft.jar (Also, you may have not added the server jar in the /server folder.)
As a note, you also have to have a Premium Account, servers authorize you.
Also, Jeb fixed swords and bows not enchanting :V
