Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
Maybe I can use this opportunity to change my name to "MrFluffykins".

Wiki Skin Overhaul
For years, the Minecraft Wiki has followed the same visual format as many wikis - it's a tried and true look, after all. For one user - namely, Ultradude25, an administrator on the wiki - this just wasn't good enough. Leading the effort to revamp the wiki's appearance, the community has given Minecraft's most popular wiki a complete make-over - head on over and check it out!
Minecraft Wiki will seem quite familiar to forum regulars - keep in mind however, that the visual re-design was done entirely by volunteers! It is, in many ways, another reminder of just how strong the Minecraft community is, and how far it reaches. It's hard to think of another gaming community with such strong dedication, passion and sense of unity. Congratulations to Ultradude25, and everyone who helped him out on this incredibly ambitious project!
It's your fault if you choose an inappropriate name. You could have acted more mature and chose a more decent username.
>>> Griefers would just change username and grief again!
Wow, brilliant ideas! I'm sarcastic here. All those who posted such should be banned from the forums forever lol. That'd raise the average IQ in here by a coupla points I guess lol.
If they'd taken the time to actually read more than the first page of posts, or just use Google or common sense, they'd of course have seen that:
The Ban IP idea for is stupid for so many reasons: a) Griefers can just use IP spoofers; Or just cross the street from the Mcdonald to the public library or other public free wi-fi access; c) Innocent players could potentially get their account banned because of the actions of somebody else on the same LAN as them; d) Some countries use dynamic IP. Etc. In short, the idea that "1 user = 1 IP, always the same IP" is just plain stupid.
Griefers would just swap names: Gee, like somebody else said: Surely that is exactly what happens all the time in *ALL* those *_other_* games where players can change their user names! Of course not!
Thank god *most* posters provide real and valuable ideas and insights!
****** This is how I think changing the in game name could potentially be done :
Not by allowing X changes per month or interval, but by forcing a waiting period instead!
Procedure: Into his account, the player can make (or cancel) a request to change his "in game name" (ign). His profile will now show the remaining number of days before the requested new ign activates automatically (well, not while he's playing, or logged out, only at the moment that he actually logs into the game itself, AFTER the waiting period is over of course.
It doesn't have to be more complicated than that!
When the player connects to a multiplayer server, the server will get the list of names for his profile:
- unique uncheangeable account profile name identifier (always)
- current in game name (always), does not need to be unique.
- requested future name, if any
- last X recently used names, if any.
Each name in that short list has a "timestamp" for when it was used the first time.
Using that information, each server can make up its own rules as to how to let players login or not, how to ban, etc., and what kind of info is available to other players.
Your nick is one of weirdest that i ever found. ._.
@Topic
I use this nick from about 6 years actually (first time: YT channel) and i don't think I would find any other good username.
But option like this would be good, though.
-Keep Swagging, Coolcamcam1235
I would love to change my name and if they develop something to change it that will be amazing!!
In the view-online-users menu for servers, just put both the registar name AND the nickname. Problem solved; you can ban griefers, you can tell who is lying about thier account name, there's probably a loophole through this but I can't see it.
