Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
Maybe I can use this opportunity to change my name to "MrFluffykins".

Wiki Skin Overhaul
For years, the Minecraft Wiki has followed the same visual format as many wikis - it's a tried and true look, after all. For one user - namely, Ultradude25, an administrator on the wiki - this just wasn't good enough. Leading the effort to revamp the wiki's appearance, the community has given Minecraft's most popular wiki a complete make-over - head on over and check it out!
Minecraft Wiki will seem quite familiar to forum regulars - keep in mind however, that the visual re-design was done entirely by volunteers! It is, in many ways, another reminder of just how strong the Minecraft community is, and how far it reaches. It's hard to think of another gaming community with such strong dedication, passion and sense of unity. Congratulations to Ultradude25, and everyone who helped him out on this incredibly ambitious project!
I agree with you there!
First, you couldn't just change your name to get unbanned if they ban you from a unique ID that is unchangeable, however an IP ban would be bad for people with families because then the whole family would get banned which may cause problems.
Then take into consideration how they're going to do it. I see four ways they could do this.
1: They go XBL style and make it cost each time you change it
2: They go the runescape way and have a cooldown period around say a month.
3: They go full retard and make it changable at any time, as many times as people want.
4: They go facebook style and make it where you only have a limited amount of name changes
Personally i think the Runescape idea is good, exept maybe make it cost after the first two changes. This way guys who made a bad choice by putting a ty name (mine is the bland name of robertworsham) can have the opportunity to change it to something more interesting, but the constant name changers can't just switch from SirMLGpro to lenewb, etc. etc.
I think it's a great idea, and setting the multiplayer to remember unique ID's wouldn't be hard, and personally i wan't to be able to make my name SirMischeviousMuffins c;
I agree, it should be paid to change names otherwise people will change their name every two seconds.
But of course there is the fact that someone well known might change there username and someone else might take it.
if they choose to change their user name they are choosing to lose the old username
its a good sytem
Well my friend, YOU HAVE AN AMAZING MIND!!!!!
Regarding griefers name changing in order to escape the ban stick, that's easily fixable by allowing server operators to ban the username instead of the avatar's name. There are probably even tools out there that allow server admins to ban IP addresses, so I don't see this as a large issue.
No.
Makes perfect sense. I would very much like to change my name though, it never really suited me and I just chose it because I like wolves. lol
As for the wiki changes, it looks about the same. Just widescreened I think.
Just have the ban system ban your Mojang account/IP instead of just the name. People can already change their names with hacking clients, you know. To discourage inappropriateness, have names be changeable only once every week/month.
