Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
Maybe I can use this opportunity to change my name to "MrFluffykins".

Wiki Skin Overhaul
For years, the Minecraft Wiki has followed the same visual format as many wikis - it's a tried and true look, after all. For one user - namely, Ultradude25, an administrator on the wiki - this just wasn't good enough. Leading the effort to revamp the wiki's appearance, the community has given Minecraft's most popular wiki a complete make-over - head on over and check it out!
Minecraft Wiki will seem quite familiar to forum regulars - keep in mind however, that the visual re-design was done entirely by volunteers! It is, in many ways, another reminder of just how strong the Minecraft community is, and how far it reaches. It's hard to think of another gaming community with such strong dedication, passion and sense of unity. Congratulations to Ultradude25, and everyone who helped him out on this incredibly ambitious project!
I HATE my username. I've got the name colinwcrowley11 and that isn't even my name because I bought my account secondhand. I just want to be MrCorn like I am everywhere else!
So I really don't care about changing my name, this name kind of took over other account's names.

Wiki looks more minecrafty
That's true, but maybe it shouldn't show changed to the servers admin because, if he gives "player x" a warning, saying if you come back, I will ban you or something, but not actually banning the person yet, "player x". Could change there name to "player y". And go back on the server. Without the admin knowing it was really, "player x".
That is a really good idea! Thumbs up to that.
Why was almost every word capitalized?
I see this so often
...That's harsh.
Why would changing the display name of your Mojang account be any different? As long as servers are set up in a way so
that using the /ban command will ban the account name, changing your display name shouldn't allow you to evade any bans.
AMENPlus its a great way for people who have numbers in there name to change there name without numbers. I have numbers in my name and it annoys me-.- Yes. Another solution, you can only change your name once. If you want to change it, you;ll have to pay
You just won the internet
With Bukkit, there are already plugins to change the nicknames/ screen names of players? Without Spout, the nickname shows up in the chat. With Spout plugins(allows graphic adjustments to Minecraft without client mods), the nickname shows up as the username when you look at the player.
To prevent people from changing to inappropriate or copyrighted (etc) usernames, my idea would be to have each new username checked somehow before becoming the new username for the Minecraft account.
Also, it could be made so it changes the in-game name ONLY, and the actual account keeps the same name that it started with. This could help to stop people from trying to get into a server they have previously been banned on. Basically you log in/connect with your original username, but in-game it shows a new name.
Just an idea... probably not going to affect anything...
Naw, make it like Steam. Have user "profiles" which show the face of the character in question, their current name and a list of names they have used in the past, also, acheivments.
@Ging_Ning: Maybe have username changes limited to 2 or 3 times per user, no one should NEED more than 2 or 3 changes in their life. I mean, yea you grow older, and you go from wanting "Sugarprincess2082823" to wanting to be something less infantile, but after a certain point, your tastes change signifigantly less often.
@SomethingEIse Oh crap, thats perfect!
If Jeb is going to do this, he ought to separate original login names and display names like so many other games do these days. That way people can still change their names but stay banned from the servers which they have abused.
