Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
Maybe I can use this opportunity to change my name to "MrFluffykins".

Wiki Skin Overhaul
For years, the Minecraft Wiki has followed the same visual format as many wikis - it's a tried and true look, after all. For one user - namely, Ultradude25, an administrator on the wiki - this just wasn't good enough. Leading the effort to revamp the wiki's appearance, the community has given Minecraft's most popular wiki a complete make-over - head on over and check it out!
Minecraft Wiki will seem quite familiar to forum regulars - keep in mind however, that the visual re-design was done entirely by volunteers! It is, in many ways, another reminder of just how strong the Minecraft community is, and how far it reaches. It's hard to think of another gaming community with such strong dedication, passion and sense of unity. Congratulations to Ultradude25, and everyone who helped him out on this incredibly ambitious project!
stupid childish name i chose when i was bored.
after someone changes their name, when you see them for the first time, the server would tell you their alias.
Admin Player1 changes his/her name to Player3
Griefer Player2 changes his/her name to Player1
The griefer now has admin controls
admin has no rights because they changed their name to Player3
server has turned to crap.
this is just my opinion
Make it a one-time change that you have to pay money for, with the old name available to see on the /whois, and make sure the old name isn't able to be chosen. (Technically, it's still yours, you are just wearing a new mask on it.)
On less person who knows my Login by looking at my MC player name is one less person who can attempt to brute force my account.
Really what I would love to see is something like Steam.
You have your login
Then the uniqueID that the servers get
(thats how they perma ban you regardless of how many times you change your name)
Then you have the Username that people actually see
Added security through obscurity would be welcome indeed.
Mollstam is a person who works at Mojang.
Log in with ID
BE known in game with the other name.
This would certainly stop the huge amount of stupid names that include numbers and crazy stuff.
-Griefers using different usernames to work around bans (IP bans would not work computers with multiple people playing on them.)
-It can be confusing to find a account if the username is changed.
-If famous people change their minecraft name, others can steal the old name and portray to be the celerity.
Other Solutions:
On severs: -(old username) has joined and changed their username to (new username). This would prevent confusion, ban work-around's and and celerity imposing on severs the player has already joined before they changed their username.
Restricted names: Choose to set a passcode lock on a username when changing a username to prevent celerity imposing. You can only lock a certain amount of names, though (to prevent spam and player annoyance.)
On forums: Username History to see the previous usernames of a user.
Just some ideas for solutions to problems that might occur.
