Earlier this month, we saw the wildly popular Minecraft: Pocket Edition clear 1 million sales as well; it quickly became the Android Market's most worldwide-downloaded app. The Survival Mode update to the game makes Pocket Edition more of an action-oriented experience, with health bars, weapons and animals included, as well as the addition of more blocks from the PC version of the game. Creative mode continues to see improvements as well.
It's almost impossible to really grasp the totality of how far Minecraft has come, and how much Mojang has grown. What will the next major landmark be for the smash-hit sandbox game, and the blockbusting team behind it?

Seriously Mojang, we shouldn't have had to wait 3 years to get basic content like... chairs and tables, or a few more mobs and animals, or a few extra colorful and shiny ores to make digging more interesting, or easier redstone circuitry mechanics, or the ability to build buildings that have a purpose (see the windmills from better than wolves), or whatever...
You build a home, but there's no furniture to place in it, except for a bed and bookshelves. No real tables and chairs, and no wardrobe or cupboard.
You build a village, but none of the buildings have any purpose: the windmill does nothing, the store can't sell anything, the inn can't serve drinks and food...
You build a pirate ship, but it can't move and there's no NPCs that could match a pirate theme.
You want to explore the water? There's nothing in there, no special resource to find and no creatures (except for octopus).
You build a castle, a huge castle with strong walls and tall towers. But then there's nobody to live in it and add some atmosphere. Also, no NPC is going to attack it, so what's the point? Sure, the castle and village are decorative, but Minecraft is supposed to be more than virtual Legos (as implied by the presence of RPG elements).
The game has a lot of potential, Mojang promised to make great use of that potential, Mojang has made enough money to hire a few more developers if that's the issue, yet 3 years later we still use stairs as chairs. It's even worse: nobody expects Mojang to improve the game much anymore, everyone thinks the modding API is the only thing that will ever make Minecraft a real game and not a Beta draft. Mods should improve a game, but in the case of Minecraft they are what will MAKE IT a game.
Jeb has my respect because from what I can tell, he's working hard to fix Minecraft. Notch strongly disappointed me and let down the community. You bet if it weren't for Jeb taking over last year, you would have had millions of people demanding their money back! I don't know about the other employees, but Mojang as a whole is a big let-down and I doubt I'll buy another game from them again.
In either case, Minecraft is over-hyped. Fans and these forums need to cut out the cheering, this is not doing anybody a service. Fans: you can ask for more than what we have been given and still love Minecraft. As for the forums: you're not doing the community a service by acting like Minecraft is perfect and awesome when clearly there is huge room for improvement.
And yes, I like Minecraft a lot, I just want it to reach the full potential it has and which was promised a few years ago by Notch/Mojang. If I didn't like the game I wouldn't be wasting my time writing this, I'd go play Skyrim.
But I paid money to support Minecraft when it was still in Beta. Keyword: "SUPPORT". Paying to support a game means the money you spend helps the development of the game. That money was not used to support the game and help improve it, it was used to fill the pockets of the people behind it. I did not pay for a draft of a game so Notch could get rich, alright? I paid so Minecraft would have content and be awesome. If Notch made the game we expected and got rich from it, fine, I'd even say he deserves the money. But what Minecraft is right now is not something anybody deserves to earn millions of dollars for. It's certainly not what I would have paid for had I know it would be this way.
Expect more angry rants about this every time I see a post that is shamelessly licking Mojang's bottom.
And if you disagree with any of this, then I think you just have low expectations when it comes to video games.
And again, the modding API should give me the game I expected, but we shouldn't have to rely on mods for basic stuff like furniture or a few more NPCs.
Rants like this annoy me. If you think you know better, go ahead and make your own gaming company and convince a similar group of people to give you money. I dare you!
Mojang doesn't owe us a single thing. If you like the game, you pay for it. If you don't, Mojang doesn't get the money. That is all that matters and if you think Mojang is milking this game for every dime they can get... that is called free market capitalism.
There is nothing unique or distinctive of Mojang... other than they have hit upon a good idea and are being successful with the concept. If anything, the odds are stacked against independent developers from succeeding. I've seen other groups of programmers even come up with some fairly good ideas but not really be able to make much money from those ideas.
This isn't to say that the "bootlicking" is a bit annoying, but you also don't have to be a jerk either.
As for missing content, there are a whole bunch of very good mods that install any of this content you might want to add. I'd rather have a game which you can mold into the game you want by choosing parts and pieces rather than demanding that everybody have the same thing... so I am sort of glad that there is a minimal number of mobs and features as well. In fact, I dare say that is part of the draw from this game as opposed to other more structured games.
