Some time ago, we talked about how Minecraft would not see release on the Playstation Vita; it would seem that Mojang has an exclusive deal with Microsoft for release on their platforms. Generally, an exclusive deal with a producer means that a given game can only be released on their licensed consoles - when (or if) the exclusivity of Minecraft may expand to other platforms is, at the moment, unknown.
We recently had a chance to look at some of the upcoming features of the XBLA release, such as customizable textures and skins, a rather innovative approach to multiplayer support, and the future of modding. What will the future hold for the console port? While the PC version is miles ahead of it's console sibling, it very well may be the standard by which the sandbox port is measured.

Too lazy to parse the rest of the pages for comments like this. Let me make this clear to everyone who doesn't know how to think.
EXCLUSIVITY IS BAD IN ALL OF ITS FORMS!
Companies buying out rights to a game is never healthy for the growth of a franchise. Games held down to one console/platform limit their relevance and cultural impact in so many ways. While there are definitely drawbacks/obstacles that present themselves while developing for certain platforms, people being paid not to develop for a certain platform is what I consider much worse and unhealthy then choosing for legitimate reasons not to develop on a certain platform. Sure it benefits the companies greatly, and, in times where the game may not be produced otherwise, it is good, but cross platform mutuality should always be the main goal of this industry. Often things like this is what divides a community or communities, and while I acknowledge that many gamers do not participate in gaming communities the same ways others do, I still consider it a misguided choice to allow things like this to happen.
ON ANOTHER NOTE
This whole exclusive title being given to the Minecraft port to XBOX 360 seems preposterous, seeing as, as it has been since day one, the game has and is being developed mainly for PCs running Linux, Mac OS and Windows a like, not to mention it has already rolled into the mobile gaming scene on both Android OS and iOS. Console marketing needs to get their heads out of their asses and realize that they are not considered the only form of legitimate gaming media. All Microsoft has really done is pay for a console in specific not to be able to have the game, about half of the main stream gaming products already had it. While what Microsoft did may turn out to be a good business choice, I still don't agree with it as a mutually beneficial choice for gamers.
Also on another note:
Chances of very many mod support to be added to this exclusive Minecraft release I feel are low due to past releases of products for the Microsoft owned console, that were lacking mod capabilities that other releases were complimented with. Standard texture packs sound possible, but probably any above a set resolution.
it will in time
List of exclusive games for Sony in 2011/2012:
teqnically, mojang isn't doing damn about the xbla port, just updating the pc version, 4j studios have to deal with the crap of porting lots of java code into c++.
Xbox has the capacity to do infinite worlds as much as PC. If not, At least until the farlands.
P.S. I'm getting the xbox version to play with my xbox friends but will never abandon the PC version in all its greatness. If I had a Ps3 i would probably stick with the PC and just invest on it instead of raging on something that cannot be changed by pointless rage comments.
reacts to minecraft :DOkay, the guy above my last comment, if you free-online, awesome deals on games, stuff like that, check out Steam man,
steam is honestly the best out of xbox, and sony's online.
The thing with steam. It is free, it has some extremely good deals, like Saints Row 2 only 4 dollars. You also get free online, Free - to - Play Games, and a whole community of friends and groups. Even more. But the thing is, Most Xbox and PS3 fanboys will say "Why the ---- wants to play on the computer like a fat ---?!" And that's how people are.
You see guys, people have opinions. People are Bias to Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, any other major gaming company out there. If they are truly a gamer, they will say they love all the consoles equally. But its not like that anymore. People want to take side on things they think that's better than the other. When in reality, they all have their faults. Its all Bias people, its all bias.
Minecraft however is not an arcade game. I will never consider it an arcade game. It is... well people call it a lot of things. Sandbox, adventure, etc. But I will never be able to come up with a name for it. Minecraft is Minecraft. There is nothing quite like it. However I can say that if the Mojang of Minecraft Indev, Alpha, ha and heck even Beta (well maybe just halfway through beta) was offered more money or whatever the deal was for exclusivity on a single console they would not have taken that path. The Mojang of those days would have done whatever possible to get it on PS3, XBOX360, (muffled laughter) Wii, Nintendo 3ds, PSP, PSVITA, IPOD, IPAD, DS, and of course the best system of all time... THE DREAMCAST!!!!:P Now I realize all these systems were not out during some of the time frames listed but you all get what Im saying, and that is that Dreamcast is probs the best system ever invented. JK:). No but seriously. It was. BACK TO MINECRAFT TALK NOW!!! Like I said the Mojang I used to love (not saying I dont like minecraft anymore. Played it like 15hrs today. Seriously I did) would have never agreed to this. And if Microsoft would have said then you cant be on our system (NOT SAYING THEY DID FANBOYS. DONT FREEK!) then Mojang would have done everything in their power to get it on there. If all else fails they would just say "screw you microsoft" and get it out on all the other ones. Now when microsoft would have come begging for they game they wouldnt have said no or laughed at their faces. No they would have happily handed it over to spread the joy of the game. Thats the mojang I remember. Thats the mojang I miss.
GO DREAMCAST!!!! No but really somebody port it to dreamcast and then post the port in the homebrew section of dcisozone.com
