Today's not Thursday, but there is a Snapshot out anyway - surprise!  Mostly owing to the totally awesome Mojam fundraising game-making maraton, the fine folks at Mojang were quite busy last week, and didn't release a Snapshot.  This is that Snapshot, all polished up and ready for you!  What lies inside?


Features:
  • Mobs can now ride stuff that rides other stuff
  • Players riding stuff will keep it when logging off (ie, if you’re on a minecart and log off, you will take that minecart with you)
  • Animated blocks and items in texture packs now requires the animation definition (previously it was optional)

    Fixes:
  • Language files have been updated
  • Cannot Connect To Own Server While Not Online (LAN) / Playername being E-Mail address when offline
  • Comparators causes block updates while idle
  • Hopper's name doesn't change in its GUI after renamed in anvil
  • Command Block Arguments Length
  • Unnecessary delay of "Done" button in the texturepacks menu
  • Hopper don't update comparator when receiving item stack
  • Mob Spawners failing to "Saving entity NBT"
  • EntityAIAvoidEntity Interference
  • Scoreboard accepts arguments for @p but if not found it will use a wrong name

There was no snapshot in this year's 8th week because of the Mojam, therefore no 12w08a.

I think it's a bad idea forcing people to have an animation definition file.
What was wrong with leaving it optional?

What I understand and what I found in the default textures folder is every animated textures need a animation definition text file even nothing inside the file.
Before without the text file the animation will simply run with the order of textures and 1 tick per frame.

Yea. This is still additional work. Ugh. Well, I have some textures to go edit anyways, and just spam files.

Nice! So... what d'ya think about spider stacks? Six or seven spiders on top of each others, could be interesting (and terrifying) to fight.

The numbers aren't necessarily sequential. They're week numbers (which is what the "w" means. There was no 13w08a snapshot because they didn't release a snapshot in week 8.

I haven't seen it, but simply the *thought* of all animated textures cycling through 1 tick per frame makes me nauseous. If you can create a ton of textures and zip them up correctly, I see no reason you can't edit a text file to make them animate better than the default.

So, if we pull a spider into a skeleton, or if a spider bumps into one, it will become a Jokey? It this the same with Pigs and Players?

That made no sense whatsoever.

About the update, I personally love the stacked mobs option. I can imagine some pretty terrifying combinations. One of my favorite: Witch riding a bat with invisibility potion effect = flying witch.

Ride a pig on a spider on a bat on a slime in a minecraft on a blaze on a cow on a ghast on an enderman on the enderdragon on the wither :D

Hey, as long as all parties are amenable, it's not up to us to decide what they can and can't do.

Hopefully we are one step closer to the day I can jump off a ledge in the nether and land on a ghast.

I simply had my images done by 2 or 3 frames. Just copypasted. So it would still run like it was set to three or two ticks.
That's because that's how animating textures was done using Optifine.
So, all this is forcing me to do is go and add a bunch of blank .txt files.
