Guys, come on, can you please read a few pages before commenting? It has been proven twice that there is no notched pickaxe in Oblivion (images provided), so please stop saying it is.

Also, I've beaten Oblivion well over 10 times, and explored countless dungeons in oblivion, and come across no Notched Pickaxe, or anything'notched' for that matter. Please guys, if you are going to say that the pickaxe is in the game, give proof. So far it's only proven to be false.

I was just playing found this and was thinking. Hmm I wonder how this will show up on the minecraft community :biggrin.gif:

Guys, I also found a pickaxe while playing Harvest Moon. Wow minecraft is so popular now.

really, why would you even bother typing that. Of course its going to look similar to a pickaxe in minecraft, because its a goddamn pickaxe. And i highly doubt skyrim based its mining and forging on minecraft. they wanted it to have more depth and achievement instead of just looting things. When i found this pickaxe i didn't even think of notch, and to be honest i don't actually care if it is a reference or not..

If the axe can only be found in a single location, and that location is far out of the way, rarely seen, than it's obviously an easter egg of sorts. One meant to be found for those who look around a bit. If I were sitting around all day playing minecraft,I would be tempted to include this thing that I love to play so much in some way as well. it's an homage. There is no conclusive proof of the intentions that the item caries with it, but it's very coincidental at the least. I see no reason why it's not possible this was indeed meant to represent minecraft. It's a game about mining... why not throw in that reference when Skyrim is also incorporating a much more full mining and forging system. I think it is pointless to argue the fine details of it, but at least accept it is possible.

Notch has already put a Easter egg in. Skyrim is all about dragons right? Well if you've been playing/watching the pre-release, there is a world called The End, where you have to kill the Ender Dragon. The reason this is a Easter Egg, is that it is quite hard to make a "THE END" Portal.

As others said, the pickaxe handle for instance can have notches or patterns carved into it. This is more than likely mere coincidence.

Skyrim did this to us. Now lets do something to them.

anyone who say now that in oblivion there was a notched pickaxe as well, will be labeled as Schizophrenic... there's no such thing in oblivion, what you saw was only in your mind...

Sorry, had to put this here, I'm shocked to see how many people say the pickaxe was also in oblivion despite the proofs we post here showing there was not!

I believe there is ressemblance between skyrim and minecraft and vice-versa, beyond the pickaxe thing.
And yes, the pickaxe is there, on the highest mountain of the world alone... there is just some ore around...
And the guy above has a point, why it is named notched pickaxe if the model don't have a single notch in it?

And yes, the developers of skyrim are friends with notch. The people who started the lawsuit is bethesda softworks and zenimax, not bethesda game studios. And no, it's not the same thing.

It is obviously a homage to Notch because if we see it is worth 303. This is an easter egg for any coders who are also gamers because 303 is the code computers use for "see other" (i.e. see other game!) I cracked the code!

I feel stupid, I found this pickax and never once made the connection. Even the enchantment is 'notched pickax' (which I thought a strange name for an enchantment).

Well I guess that Pickaxe just got... Notched.

For those of you who say there is a Notched Pickaxe in previous games: Where is your proof? I've seen plenty of proof to convince me that it is a slight nod towards Notch, but no hard evidence to prove otherwise.

Secondly, have you guys never heard of a play on words? I mean seriously. Yes, "notched" is a real word. That doesn't mean they can't use it as an Easter egg..

To the idiots saying to sue them. Why would they? They are promoting Minecraft. It isn't a crime. If Notch or Mojang brought it to court, they would most likely lose.

Notch said things about a "Toddhoward Pickaxe" he would add. Maybe this is the easter egg to Skyrim

Why would Mojang sue for something like that? Bethesda's lawsuit was a huge mistake. Notch actually had a brilliant marketing idea when he challenged them to a competition, and had they taken him up on it, it could have been totally played up. The end result could have been WIN for both companies. Unfortunate, really. I think he's right though.... it seems pretty clear that the average gamer enjoys both releases, and that the lawyers involved in the suit probably didn't get held enough as children.
