Weekly Content Contest: Joliween
This week's winner of the Content Contest is none other than andrejolicoeur, creator of the Joliween Pack! One of the first things I noticed was the new intro screen, complete with smooth customized menu buttons, and a unique autumn-esque background marquee. Upon entering the game, the environment immediately gave a sense of a cool fall day. Amber, wavy grass blocks, newly dormant trees and emerald waters dominated the landscape, with mud-soaked pigs and shaggy sheep prancing in the distance. One sheep in particular - caught in the image above - seemed to be standing on the water...was it a haunted sheep?
From the stone and ores all the way through the custom item sets, this pack flows very nicely into itself at every intersection. Block transition feels almost sculpted, with surprising attention to detail on little things, such as a gentle Gouraud shading on grass block edges, which help to provide depth and detail to every piece of landscape.
If you haven't checked out this pack yet, you definitely owe it to yourself to give it a try. After playing for awhile, you might almost forget that Halloween is already over! Give it a look here!
Sonic and the others have been bamboozled!!
I agree, it looks like crap.
Ha, some one's getting an ego..
though i agree with a lot of people here, some of the other packs were much nicer (and large than 256 pixels), the over use of orange looked a little desperate. Would of been cooler to place small orange plants (moss?) on the grass texture than just orange grass. or even bones amongst the grass.
Croco15's Grim Pack was the best, for me realistic(ish) and creepy.
Congrats Joli, I'm happy that TRUE SKILL was recognized.
I liked GRIMS to but it wasn't completely done and it felt more RPG then Halloween.
The theme was HALLOWEEN....not HORROR.
That's screams HALLOWEEN at me.
Actually, as a matter of fact, every one of my textures WAS hand-made. So... before you go making assumptions, realize that when you assume you are making an "ass" out of "u" and "me"
Not every realistic pack looks the same, just as not every 16x pack looks the same.
I'm sorry, but one screenshot (and a not very appealing screenshot at that) does not do this "winner" any justice. Likewise, little more than a link to the download was unhelpful. If something was so great as to win a contest, I would think that it would deserve to be shown off a little better.
...
So you didn't use any photo's to make your textures your telling me you did it from complete scratch...no pictures involved like Joli? If so your full of crap. This grass smells to high heaven of not being made by hand
If you would bother to actually read the OP of that pack I clearly state that I do use photos for certain things, however, every photo used was taken by me with my camera and manipulated in gimp.
Whats the difference between that and google images?
Mine are my own art, not someone else's? Really, you are being childish about this. Just because I use my own photos doesn't mean it doesn't take skill. I challenge you to make a better realism pack. Not that I'm saying mine is the best, which I am not, but so that you can see it isn't easy.
Their actually the easiest packs to make if you choose to make one. Your not drawing the texture yourself hence why all realism packs look relatively similiar to eachother and each looks noisy as hell if your not close to the object. Also I'm not the one being childish about this you and your kind were by not congratulating Jolie instead you choose to wine.
