Just save your .minecraft folder 1. go to run 2. type in %appdata% 3. copy .minecraft to your desktop ( or in a safe place) 4. delete .minecraft that was in %appdata% 5. run minecraft ( minecraft should make a new .minecraft folder) 6. install pre 5 to new .minecraft folder. 7 to change back take to one in the desktop and put it where the pre 5 one is. (all save and mods will always be on the .minecraft folder u insalled them on) :)to geopardlecko
They most likely didn't add anything new, just bugfixing and polishing things to look better. "Code freeze" is poor choice of word, should be "feature freeze".

You move the new .Jar file into the Minecraft bin folder,but make sure the new .jar file is named "Minecraft".
Read again if you need to remind yourself.

They got a lot to do to meet the deadline. They are planning on releasing 1.9 before 1.10 (which will be the full game).
At least thats what I heard.
These are being released so people can report bugs, if they didn't do this it would be slower.
