A code freeze for Minecraft is now in effect! In software jargon, a code freeze is essentially a tight set of restrictions placed on what can be added to game code, with a focus on polishing, bug-fixing and streamlining the game instead of adding more features. This assures that Minecraft will be released as a smooth, mostly (or entirely!) bug-free game.
Minecraft has gone through some amazing changes since its humble beginnings, adding tons of features and content. What have been some of your favorite additions to the game?
favorite things were the addition of survival, and then having what was necessary in order to indeed survive.
i played classic a few hours over 2 or 3 days but soon grew tired of it, but as soon as i saw a let's play video of someone huddled in a tiny, quickly-made house with nothing but a wooden sword and 4 torches, and a spider looming outside the window- minecraft turned from a game i didn't want to play even for free into a game i had to buy.
all the code freeze means is that no new content can be added until minecon. doesn't mean bug releases couldn't come out. after all jeb said that notch wanted to keep doing prereleases up to minecon
Favorite thing about Minecraft... EVERYTHING. I really loved the MAPS, and VILLAGES, and MULTIPLAYER. Notch, you've become my hero. +AllTheInternets. <3 I really wish there were more updates tho.
sorry do not really understand, is this a restriction on their end? like does this mean there will not be any more major updates to the patch, just cleaning and polishing?
it means that until the full game comes out, there will be no more major updates.
Codefreeze?:(
So much things are still missing. Like red stone activated torches, better water physics. Personally I'd like to see a lot of improvement in building and engineering.
Really? i think minecraft has a lot more room to improve. Im quite dissaponted with this, them not adding any more stuff.
If the freeze means that once Minecraft drops the "Beta" label, they're done updating the game, then yeah, I agree. There are hundreds of amazing mods out there that add features that wouldn't break the game and would make building and living in Minecraft-land a lot more fun, and a good majority of them aren't even massive changes, they're simple stuff like redstone-powered lights. Mojang keeps updating the game, but the Adventure update was supposed to be this massive, game-changing thing, and really, it didn't change all that much from my perspective. The new stone blocks are cool, but ultimately, all I really got was a few new textures to build with. I feel like there are modders out there who have done more singlehandedly to improve the game and add new features than the whole Mojang team has. They just seem to make substantially more progress in the same amount of time.

My favorite addition(s) is Dungeons, along with villages and the new bow
Flying in creative mode.
Abandoned mines.
New bow.
Hi,Code Freeze. You are the last few steps to ultimate greatness.
Boy,have I been waiting.
There's no such thing as a bug-free application once it becomes something more than school exercises. They can be very specific, but not non-existent.
At least, since it is a joke, it won't appear in the Wiki.
powered cake!
