1.9 Updates: Old Score Gone, Experience Possible Substitute

Notch recently noted a possible end to the currently-frozen scoring system: experience orbs may begin counting towards a score total in the near future! The recent screenshot also reveals another likely addition, in the form of Hardcore Mode - death means world deletion. At the moment, Minecraft only offers item loss as a potential deterrent from death; the inclusion of an optional Hardcore Mode would certainly provide a new sense of danger and accomplishment to an already excellent game!

I demand that we also have a mode which will infect the player's computer with several deadly viruses, trojans, spyware, etc. upon death.

Finally. The old &e0 thing was getting old, and it must have been confusing to new players. Another big step for pulling Minecraft out of the Beta pit and into a finished product!

But I have something to say about all this....

OH NO HOW COULD NOTCH RUIN SUCH A MEMORABLE PART OF MINECRAFT THIS IS OUR GAME NOT YOURS YOU RUINED THE GAME HOW DARE YOU I HATE MINECRAFT NOW!!!!

Am I the only one that thinks the hardcore world deletion thing is still a joke? I suppose it could be real, but I dunno. I'd never use it if it were real so no biggie.

Well what if you have not died in a while and you made lets say an epic house and you die and you have to delete world? What do you do from there? Rage quit? Haha no, hopefully you can choose a world to do hardcore mode and have backups then :biggrin.gif:

Since they are adding all this stuff, why doesn't Notch make gold nuggets a form of currency and have gold ingots revert to 9 gold nuggets? that way you can trade with NPC's for stuff

What if you turned off your computer or force-quit Minecraft without clicking Delete World? Sure, it would probably just return you to that screen when you reloaded your save (just like any time you reload while dead) but then you could always use NBTEdit or something. It would provide a way to restore your saved game if you hadn't backed up if you changed your mind about hardcore mode. And let's face it—who wouldn't change their mind about hardcore mode once they're already dead?
