Jeb updated the "most likely" release date for 1.8 to September 12th, 2011! Bear in mind, this isn't a guaranteed release date - just the most likely one as of this writing. Keep an eye out for it!
Additionally, it has been confirmed that - at present - experience orbs will not have a practical use until 1.9. Further, while villages will be generated, they will be curiously absent of a population. How eerie! We will continue to provide information as it surfaces, including the release of 1.8! Stay tuned!

How about not releasing it and release 1.9 version of 1.8?
What happens if in 1.8, we move into the village and take over all the houses and crops as our own? What happens if we use the NPC villages as a "convenient location for acquiring materials" and take all the wood, crops, and whatnot, and raze the village to the ground?
In 1.9, will the villagers just spawn where the village used to be? Will they be pissed to find someone living in their homes? Will they become a rampaging mob with torches and pitchforks if they show up and there's no homes for them?
Now Jeb says the 12th maybe this just another run around we waited long enough 2 months and nothing They want to keep pushing the release back until it reaches time for MineCon.
Im starting an enderman hunting zone for my already existing games.
Im just gonna sit in the tree with my bow and wait for them to spawn.(i hunt them like they are Deer.)
I heard that they aren't putting it out tomorrow (rather than Monday) because they don't want to go into work on the weekend if there happens to be bugs. I completely understand that.
I say don't even tell us when it "might be release" I hate being disappointed when it gets pushed back. I would rather get surprised one day with a "Hey 1.8 patch is release today!!!!". That is much better news than another Announcement of "We really don't know, but we want you to stay interested so we'll give you some false hope".
I'm with the posters before me that asked why not just wait until its all done and then give it to us as 1.8 instead of splitting it. The impatient people can wait I'm sure..
goddamnit take the time to fill the villages and add experience orbs, I don't care if it takes another month, unless 1.9 we'll be quick. But still It's quality not quantity.

It's fine, I can wait. I am impatient but for a game in development it should've been worth the wait.
