Jeb updated the "most likely" release date for 1.8 to September 12th, 2011! Bear in mind, this isn't a guaranteed release date - just the most likely one as of this writing. Keep an eye out for it!
Additionally, it has been confirmed that - at present - experience orbs will not have a practical use until 1.9. Further, while villages will be generated, they will be curiously absent of a population. How eerie! We will continue to provide information as it surfaces, including the release of 1.8! Stay tuned!
well, I am sure the leaked version that everyone has wasn't the most recent, I am sure Notch has fixed most of these bugs before the leak even happened. I think it is safe to say that even if they released it today, it wouldn't be nearly as buggy as that leak.
If you're all seriously that impatient why not just go download the Pre-Release? Anyways, they didn't say it was definitely going to be released today. Lastly, even if they definitely said they will release it today, believe it or not: If they release it anytime today, it will still be today.
this is another post which is no good at all and doesn't help anybody, but I'm also eagerly waiting! I already told my gf tha she don't need to come over tonight... :cool.gif:
I officaly hate jeb, first he pushes it back a day, now a week! i set up my computers last night so me and my friends could play 1.8! now we are juse f'ing sitting here reading this artical! I HATE YOU JEB! :angry.gif:
Jeb's been the main guy coding for Minecraft while Notch does his thing with Scrolls etc...
So no update today? That will suck, i cant even get the pre release to run, keeps crashing when it tries to load a world.
When was this pre release version made?
Aside from what others have already said I think it’s best to postpone the date until the game is ready. Notch make note that this should be a learning experience for you. Don’t say it’s coming out on a date that you can’t make it happen on, that’ll only lose your business. I’m extremely excited myself about the update but I don’t live for this game so I can wait.
Really I have played the pre-release and the only bug I have gotten yet (over the past 3 days)is the dupe problem with the crafting table and the Furnace. I don't get any rendering problems, clipping, lag, game crashes or anything so from what I have seen from playing there isn't anything wrong. The dupe items can't be picked up so it doesn't matter anyways.
So far, Mojang has prided themselves on a quality product. Yes, we've all had quirks and bugs and issues here and there, but for the most part Minecraft is relatively stable (Java sucks, but eh, its the nature of the beast.)
Simply releasing 1.8 the way it currently is (Even with the progress Jeb has made), would be a crime. Not only would it reflect poorly on Jeb himself, but on the entire Mojang team as well.
The Pre-Release was a blessing in disguise. It gives normal, everyday players an opportunity to see that it isn't as easy as "Write code for mob. Put mob in game. Rake in profits.", and I'm sure its been a blessing for Mojang as well, because they just got free bulk testing and may have found issues that their limited test group didn't.
Wanting to wait until they have the update is nearly working order is ideal. Currently, as 1.8 stands as of the pre-release, I wouldn't call it "working order".
I respect Mojang's decision to side against the player's "peer pressure" to release so early. I think it looks good upon them to WANT to release a quality project to their players, not only for the players, but for ease themselves. (Releasing a half-assed project will just require them to continually go back and re-work things until they get it right, this involves a lot more patches, a lot more stress on their servers. More stress on their servers = less people able to log in. Less people able to log in = more bitching on the forums.).
I hope Jeb is able to work through issues quickly and that nothing too difficult arises. I may be the voice in the darkness in saying that I very, very, very much appreciate the hard work that Jeb does. Notch owes you more money.
Well, I'm one of the few people who hope this doesn't come out today. From what I've seen on the Bug Report thread for the pre-release...1.8 is not ready. So everyone who is whining and complaining and cursing the programmers, just stop. Unless you want a game you can barely play, leave them be and let them iron out the major bugs. And if you are that impatient, download the pre-release.
I haven't played 1.8, going to wait a few days after it is released for the major bugs to be fixed XD
The bugs aren't that bad. For a pre-release it is more of a solid platform than some finished games that most of the big companies try to shell out on an assembly line. I want the finished 1.8 ASAP, but I am willing to wait so Jeb and Notch can clean up the few issues that remain.
if they pull off a miracle and squish the bugs in rapid order and get it out today, great. if not, i prefer something working than broken. for those of you who don't want to wait, there's always the pre-release.

Take your time and make it right.
Cheers.
