Notch is, at this very moment, participating in the Ludum Dare, live! This challege is a regular accelerated game development Event. Participants develop games from scratch in a weekend, based on a theme suggested by community. This contest's theme is "escape".
No minecraft has not been a ludumdare.
There is a VERY old video on youtube where he demonstratet a small 128*128 map. He said that he got this inspiration from infinity miner and wants to create something using this system. The last sentence ist the best
"Dont know if i'll finish this, lets see"
We actually do have the entire source code, and actually that's not really true because modders can link their mods with adf.ly links which makes money using minecraft.

mods contain no code, they are only "additions", and any modified code is very scarce and only required to get the mod to actually load.
and if i were notch, i would not have adf.ly links. in general, shortened urls are not a good idea for a healthy web, and adf.ly is an additional point off attack.

Untrue, many mods out there only edit base classes because noobs write them, or it is impossible to get the same effect any other way.
Go here and type in 'mojang'.
Are you an idiot or something? We have direct access to minecrafts source code, its not "secured" anywhere.
and you dont have the real source code, and i am not even sure that you can compile a java bin from the code.
