Minecraft - 9 Million Sales, and Counting
_________________________________

That's right, the PC version of Minecraft has surpassed 9 million sales! Minecraft as a game continues to have a phenomenal level of success, with humble beginnings in the hands of Mojang founding member Markus "Notch" Persson, and growing over a period of years into one of the most successful indie game titles in gaming history. In addition, the recent changes to Minecraft in 1.4.7 - and future changes planned the game, including Mod API support, more adventure map options, and all sorts of customization options, including the highly anticipated Redstone Update - Mojang continues to push the game to new heights, even as they get involved in the community, with everything from direct-feedback bug fixing to real-life renewal projects.

Pocket Edition Update 0.6.0 Now Submitted
_________________________________

That's right, a new update for Pocket Edition was recently submitted! It can take up to a week before the update becomes available for iOS or Android, so don't worry if you don't get it right away! Some of the changes include:

New features:
  • Signs
  • Armor
  • Baby animals
  • Fancy clouds
  • Improved D-pad
  • Stonecutter for crafting stone blocks
  • Sheep can be colored with dyes
  • New block types: Netherrack, Nether Brick, Block of Quartz with 2 variants (pillar and chiseled), mossy/cracked Smooth Stone Brick variants (creative only), chiseled/smooth Sandstone variants
  • New stairs: Nether Brick, Sandstone, Smooth Stone Brick, Quartz
  • New slabs: Sandstone
  • New item: Nether Brick (smelted from netherrack and crafted into nether brick tile)
  • Upside-down stairs, corner stairs
  • Slabs can be placed in up position (needs testing on small screens)
  • Sand and Gravel are affected by gravity

    Tweaks:

  • Recipes for crafting slabs give 6 slabs instead of 3 (as in PC version)
  • Nether Reactor spawns Netherrack blocks instead of Obsidian
  • The fog and sky color have changed
  • The Nether Reactor now spawns more items
  • Cows drop Leather

    Bug fixes:

  • Melons had several bugs where they would spawn too fast and where they shouldn’t

Notice for Android users: Starting with this update, Minecraft Pocket Edition will require Android 2.3 or later. This means we no longer support Android 2.1 or 2.2, but you will still be able to play older versions of Minecraft Pocket Edition.

Amazing milestone Minecraft, let's see if you can get 10 million sales before the end of Chinese new year. I know it's a tough feat but let's see if they can do it. ;)

Also, finally armor and 6 slabs in the PE. And I'm pretty surprised that upside down/corner stairs and upside down slabs will be implemented very quickly into the PE.

Well, the PE will probably out-sell the PC version because people use smart phones a lot nowadays. Not to mention it's cheaper, and there's a demo. Ooh, another thing, it's only, like, 7mb.
For now.

PE is spreading faster than PC :P Only 2.8 million sales more, and we are more than PC!

What about XBE?
I don't know this guy personally, but I really like his videos, and would like you all to support him :) http://m.youtube.com/#/user/frenchge .

Personally, I doubt it; the pocket edition is fairly limited when compared to the PC version, not just in features (which they'll doubtless add more of) but in terms of how much it can be modified.

9 million sales? Notch must be one pretty rich guy
People were saying minecraft was going to shut down because of the lack of money to make updates. Who makes up those rumors?

Doing a little quick math, assuming in every sale Notch got 20 American dollars (Using 20 instead of the current price to give a more accurate number since the game was considerably cheaper in Alpha and Beta before it was fully released.) 9,000,000 times 20 = 180,000,000. Which is 180 MILLION dollars. Even if you cut that number in half for all his expenses, taxes, and margin of error assuming that a $20 average per sell made the total a little high, then Notch is still walking around with 90 million dollars and is still one DANG rich man. Plus that's not even counting the sales of the pocket edition or xbox edition.

All I can say is I have a lot of respect for Notch turning an idea for a game as simple as mining and crafting into a success. Then all the respect for the people at Mojang who took Minecraft and turned it into the multi-million dollar game that it is today. In my humble opinion, the world is just a little bit better because of Minecraft. Thanks Notch and congratulations on 9 million.
