Notch just dropped a bombshell on Twitter: patch 1.6 will be coming to the Minecraft beta next week. While it's probably taken a little longer than originally planned, it's for a good reason. The patch was primarily a bug-fix update that would include only one new feature: an awesome in-game map system.
Then a few weeks ago Notch updated the timetable for the patch release as "not soon" because he wanted to do something else: add a fully functional Nether to multiplayer.
So we know that maps are coming, as is a working Nether, and there are a lot of bugs squashed to boot. What are you looking forward to most in the patch?
I hope there's a little "You are here!" marker on the maps, I get lost in seconds! :PI can't wait for multiplayer Nether so I can build portal tunnels to connect my map! FYI, portal tunnels are one portal connected to a Nether portal extremely close to another Nether portal connected to a normal portal far away from the original portal. (Wow, four portals!)
Honestly I'm most looking forward to evidence they are making progress in the game. I know, I know. It takes time to add in new things, and fixing bugs can easily overshadow the time it takes to add those new things, but I'm just worried Mojang will end up like 3DRealms. :\
HOLY ****! GASM! GASM! GASM! OMFG YAYS!
But its planned date.
