Excited about attending Minecon 2012 this year?  Why wouldn't you be, it's going to be awesome!  There will be a whole host of special guests, booths, and for anyone who attended the 'con last year, less lines.  Still, there are a few things Mojang wants to make sure any attendee is aware of!  From Mojang's own Lydia Winters:

I wish I could go to Minecon, but alas, no funds and lots of work on my plate. I hope it'll be a great time for all those who DO get to go, though! (I also bet every panel will be amazing, although I'd lean more towards anything custom map-related.)

They chose the U.S. because that's where most of the consumers are.

By individual country the most Minecraft players are in America. However, there is a much much bigger following in Europe combined which is the same kind of size.

It's in France because it is the closest to the greatest amount of fans. It makes much more sense than anywhere else in Europe, but, it still sucks because the Minecraft community has spread so far that no matter where it is it will be too far away for lots of people.

I like how people are getting this information two months before the event takes place without there even being a proper schedule with actual times and dates. Not even the people doing the panels have gotten much. They need to fire Lydia and get someone else to organise their events so badly.

Especially with it at disney land... if they are going to serve alcohol WTF? dont get it? let me repeat, **clears throat** DISNEY LAND A.K.A. THE PALACE OF KIDS.. still dont get it? **clears throat even more** DISNEY LAND... KIDS!
Why have do that at disneyland? If it was regular minecon like 2011 where it was at vegas, i would understand an 18+ thing because that is not disneyland and not necessarily for kids.
So... what is it? alcohol? sex? nudity? anything like that? or is it just to get away from the kids... if thats so here are some tips:
1. Parent: DONT BRING YOUR KIDS!
2. Minecon Hosts: DONT ALLOW KIDS!
-If you do any of the reasons above, why make it at disney land?
Bottom Line: Just Let the Kids go to the 18+ Things, or just remove it like all kids and most parents would agree. Because disneyland, kids, minecon, and an 18+ activity? ESPECIALLY A PARTY! KIDS LOVE PARTYS!

You guys make no sense

Actually most minecrafters are in Europe.

Trufax: Adults like to have fun without constantly having to worry about the welfare of children. Another shocker: not all adults are parents and almost all parents wouldn't want their kid out late at a club style party.

Paris Disneyland is a little different....

Also, for other commenters, I suspect that the reason they didn't put it in the U.S.A. this year was because of our increasing security insanity.    A significant number of the international travellers would face harassment, abuse, and theft by the TSA.  They're not the only international outfit moving their conventions and conferences out of the US.

The reason it isn't in the US is because it was in the US last year. Also it isn't actually taking place in the Disneyland park. It is taking place in the Disneyland convention centre.
