This has been a busy week! Mojang has moved to their new office; it looks great but is still far from finished. They still squeezed in some work on Minecraft, so here’s the new snapshot:

  • You can now use “/publish” to open your single-player game for LAN friends to join. This is still very much work in progress, so it lacks some necessary settings such as what game mode your friends will get, and if they should be able to use cheats or not. Also, the “/publish” command is temporary, you can’t even access it if you haven’t enabled cheats =)
  • The Ender Chest has been changed to have an inventory per player and not per world. Also, knocking down the chest will break it into 8 obsidian, unless you have Silk Touch.
  • The texture pack folder button now works on Mac

  • Fixed bug when Minecraft doesn't save your progress, stops generating chunks and freezes all the mobs.
  • Fixed the Enderdragon not dealing any damage to the player after it has been hit once
  • Fixed explosions not pushing back players
  • Fixed buckets not picking up or placing water within the spawn protection

Funny, I was just thinking that. Enjoying the snapshot, though. Wonder will 1.3 will come out?

Some people just don't understand that Jeb is trying to make 1.3 flawless and not a rushed update...

Why did he only choose to do a LAN network style server, why not a World Wide server network?

As I expected, and indeed hoped, more bug fixes. Now that they've stopped adding new features and are just cleaning and polishing, with a little luck we'll see 1.3 in the next couple of weeks.

Because a world-wide server would require port-forwarding which is a pain in the butt for anyone who doesn't already know how to do it.

We're obviously getting VERY close if this one is mainly just small tweaks and bug fixes.

Yayyyy, I can now let my friends play on my world without setting up a server. My ports are broke :/

I found a video on YouTube which tells you all about the snapshot and it really helped me out :)

12w27a snapshot video! Check it out and see the update with the pistons! v

Does the /publish mean that singleplayer doesn't have the smp glitches and stuff until you do that command?
That would be GREAT.

I like that ender chests are now per player, but why do they break into 8 obsidian? We lose an eye AND have to recraft it. Its already very difficult to make 2 of them to be able to take advantage of them.
Networking Tip of the Day: Your internal network is like an apartment building, and your router is like a doorman. Your external IP is your street address, and your internal IP is your apartment number. Ports are doorways into your building, and it is your router's job to keep track of these doors. Port forwarding is simply telling your router, if something comes in through a specific door, then you want it sent to your apartment.

Fix for the lighting at world generation issue yet? NOPE, not important because bugs give a game "character" I guess... Also very much unhappy that breaking an Enderchest doesn't drop an Enderchest.

Probably to prevent people from making the Ender Chest too easily every single time, considering how they keep items safe from anything. They are more of an emergency storage rather than place all your items in it and drag them anywhere you want and remove the need for a home base.
I am what I am. Nothing more and nothing less.

At this point, I'm sure that they're beyond the "adding feature" stage and are now working on fixing everything up.
