Texture Packs Coming on Curse Client - Want to Help?

Are you a texture pack maker, and want to reach a larger audience with better organization?  Want to get free stuff for trying out a new system?  We've got something that might interest you - Curse Client beta will support any texture packs that do not require patching (such as MCPatcher) for one-click installation.  All you have to do is upload their texture pack to dev.bukkit.org, and it will appear in our test Client!

Click the image above (or this link) for details, FAQ and more!

Not only do we allow donation links on Curse.com (with integrated Paypal support for an ad and virus-free download page - no more sketchy looking links!), any user who submits a texture pack that receives at least 1,000 downloads will also receive a free Premium subscription: no ads, and a custom title on MCF!  This also means you've got priority for our sweepstakes and giveaways.

We would appreciate your uploading of any and all texture packs to Bukkit that do not require any sort of patching in this test period.  It helps both you and your users!  Patched texture packs may see support in the near future as we iron out the system, so keep an eye out for it!

You can download the test client to see how the system works as a downloader by clicking here.  Check it out!

Find a bug, or want to report a problem?  Email any errors, glitches or bugs you might encounter to client@curse.com, so we can fix them up fast!  Keep in mind, this is currently in the testing phase, and is not the final system.  Participation means we can make it better, faster, stronger - and host more awesome textures!  For anyone using the live Curse Client, you may not see this system in place for a few weeks - once testing and the refinement process is complete, it will go live to every client.

Sounds cool, but many big packs like PureBDCraft will get 1,000 downloads really easily.

You need to install the test Curse Client for now as it isn't in the main Curse Client yet. See the article for details on how to install the test client.

I would love to help, but I'm not sure how to do it. I'm not that good at technology and stuff, and although I have like six different texture packs (three of them just different Painterly Pack) it would be hard to upload it.

*And please, don't give me default image when I'm reviewing this topic again*

Useless. All mods and texture packs will get an official manager built into the game when the mod API is released and most texture packs are not 16x.

Basically this just connects to a database and downloads .zip files to a specific location and that could be done without a "client" too.

This is cool and all, but what about the more popular texture packs as mine that generate revenue via adf.ly?  I would like to see some sort of alternative to adf.ly to this, maybe trade out the premium account for an adf.ly alternative?

Also, don't forget to make the launcher for those on Mac OS X and Linux ;D

Either way, sounds cool =)

Your browser is basically just connecting to a website that connects to a database and downloads a .zip - This just saves you extra clicks.

It also offers syncing between computers and automatic updates.

That is being taken into consideration.  I review texture packs pretty frequently - maybe you've seen them! - and am intimately familiar with high-res packs.  It would be pretty silly to say that such a thing isn't being considered, but at the same time, it would make sense to make sure it works the best it can first, right?  :)

Seems to me that people would welcome a single location to browse, sort and download texture packs instead of having to pick through threads to see what, if anything, jumps out at them.  Having a single repository for the files means no more having to fight with offsite hosting services.  This isn't meant to be anything more than a service of convenience for players, to say nothing of players who aren't comfortable installing texture packs or mods - you'd probably be surprised just how many players that is.  :)

Alright, I'll pass that along.  :)

nope, since it is for 16px packs only
and that is a bit sad. i hope they support other res in the future

What if someone uploaded a textures that weren't theirs? Then Curse would be distributing stolen textures.
Solstice, my texture pack.

I see the benefit of this, also I see as Cows stated there is a lot of possible theft that can go on.

I would like to ask though that if possible that there would be some sort of option to instead of a premium membership, perhaps a bit of coin through advertising revenues such as say 1000 dls = $X

I honestly do see this as Curse's attempt at doing something nice for the community.

There's also an author rewards program that allows users to generate points based on how popular their addons are in WoW -- We plan to give this to Bukkit users.  You can exchange these points for items seen as seen here: https://www.curseforge.com/store/

If you need to, you can just log in with your normal MCF/Bukkit username as this also works across all Curse sites. :)

(might differ in the 'beta' client initially)

Now on the other hand you are using their bandwidth and they deserve to be compensated for that so it's a trade off.

Isn't there a chance that it becomes overcrowded as many players might have a desire to use such a convenient client? Well ofcourse it is a test version and all, but is there any information on how exactly it performs?

I'm pretty sure that's not a concern.  :)
