Tripwires?

Over the last week in Snapshots, we have seen a lot of exciting things coming up - Ender Chests, villager trading, the merging of SSP and SMP modes into a fluid, single system - what else could possibly be added to this pile of goodies to make it even better?  We can think of one thing - tripwires.

Nathan "Dinnerbone" Adams uploaded this video showing off some experiments with tripwire - it appears that it can be set off by crossing the tripwire boundary (as expected), as well as being set off by "using" it much as one would use a switch or button.  What other awesome features are on the horizon?  We'll keep you posted as they develop!

A Minecraft Wedding

Posted Image

Anyone in attendance at Minecon 2011 will undoubtedly remember this touching event - Matt's proposal to Asia on-stage, alongside Mojang!  Their marriage is now official, and the wedding ceremony was something any dedicated Minecraft fan could be proud of - Minecraft-themed Jones Soda, which features many of the in-game items and creatures; a number of high-quality character model statues that were on the showroom at Minecon including Steve, creeper and more.  There were also a number of hand-made pieces for their ceremony made by the happy couple and friends, such as Minecraft trees and other bits of the world.  Other gems included a Minecraft-diamond necklace, and - something no Minecraft party should be without - a Minecraft cake.

From everyone here at the Minecraft Forum, we would like to congratulate Matt and Asia on having easily the most awesome wedding in history, and wish the happy couple well!

Want to see more pictures of their awesome wedding ceremony?  Click the image above (or this link) for the full set!

We did not see a fluid merge of SSP and SMP. We saw a horrible system full of bugs, that will fail worse than netflix's qwikster. Fix the things that are in game before you waste our time with things we do not want.

and they're not completely done with the merging of SSP and SMP -- bugs are expected! they'll get rid of the issues before the final release of the new update, of course.

Please, no tripwires.

I'm not calling this a stupid idea, but this is far from the RPG elements that Minecraft is supposed to be about. Why are we suggesting such idiotic (to me) ideas of creating more elaborate traps instead of adding more functions to the game to add to the playability of the game? For example, we have a leveling system, why not be able to level each of your stats (Health - up to two rows of hearts, Woodcutting, Mining, Fishing, Swordsmanship, etc.)

With the possibilty of being able to change names, it seems like we're trying to make a giant toybox for griefers now instead of actually giving it some semplance of the RPG that Notch wanted. I'm not saying that we shouldn't add this, but that other, better ideas, should be worked on. Who would like to acutally be able to raise a mini Enderdragon from the egg you get from the Nether? How about some Nether ore?

Bugs I expect.  I also expect fixes to snapshots containing game-breaking bugs.  What I got instead of that was an unstable game-breaking snapshot that corrupted newly-created world save files at random.  Do I expect a fix for that broken snapshot?  At this point in time, I have no clue, except to say that I would expect a properly fixed snapshot instead of the 12w21b fix that continued to leave me with unplayable worlds.

Snapshots are all fine and dandy if they don't have game-breaking bugs, if they do have game-breaking bugs I would expect them to either release a fixed snapshot or tell us to roll back to a previous snapshot that isn't bugged and wait for next week's snapshot.

Cheers ...

Nice! Although the tripwire is kinda obvious because of the triggers on the sides.

When planting a claymore, you don't leave the claymore sitting in the path for all to see. Obviously, put the trigger behind a tree or something.

Please tell me that you are not just teasing, trip wires would be a great new addition. I would enjoy making a Indiana Jones style temple with them. :-) It would rock even more with Emerald ore in the ground below them. :-D

Cool wedding, congrats to the happy couple, may they enjoy a lifetime of happyness. :-)

I agree, tripwires would be amazing.  Think of them tripping redstone, then that redstone activates a piston bridge that goes across a lava moat.  Awesome.

Just make your house out of white wool. It's as simple as that. Snow might work, but I'm not positive. Without Texture Packs of course.

The problem with the merging of SMP and SSP is that it was very, very buggy. The new features are great, but the problem is that we're weeks into the future and a lot of the bugs are still there. I'm not interested in playing with tripwires if my world keeps giving me server errors.

the name changeing system is going to be run in a way that people cant abuse it to get unban.
i think that they upgradeing skill is the stupidest idea ive ever seen or heard of this is minecraft not skyrim
and an enderdragon that you can rase? i hate it! i LOVE endermen and then enderdragon but this would ruin people buildings and bascly be over powered lets not forget only one player can get it also enderdragons are not found in the nether. and a neather ore? no thank you! the new ore for tradeing with villgers is good. give poor jeb a chance to relax!

Trip wires act almost exactly like Pressure plates. I see no use for them other than saving redstone. This really shouldn't be in the game.

"the merging of SSP and SMP modes into a fluid, single system"

what an overstatement, i cant even play 12w21b without it corrupting or blackscreening on a map. That said tho, emerald blocks and tripwires are bitchin, just c'mon with the horses jeb!!!!

I'd enjoy seeing something similiar to the 'Zipline mod' which Jeb has said MAY or MAY NOT come into the game implemented.
