This week, Mojang has begun the long process of separating the server logic from the client. They hope to make it easier to add features in the game going foward - essentially not having to program in game additions twice, for two functionally different "Minecrafts" - and also to make it possible for players to invite their friends to play on their local computer without setting up a server.  While the intent to begin migrating was announced in the past, this Snapshot begins taking the first step into realizing it fully.  Note - the changes are NOT complete, but the game should run normally.

Now, on to the changelog:
 • More fixes to silk touch and block picking
 • Wooden tools work in furnaces
 • Villagers spawned from spawning eggs will get a random profession
 • Updated language files
 • Miscellaneous editions

The download links are slightly different than prior Snapshots - the link below is the client ZIP, not JAR; it contains both client-side and server-side JAR files.  The Server JAR link is as it has been for previous Snapshots.

Downloads:

Client ZIP: Download (This is a ZIP file containing client- and server-side JAR files)

Server JAR: Download

Enjoy this first glance into some very exciting changes!

I like the way this is heading :) A few notable bugs (?) so far...

No sound from doors, fence gates, and empty dispensers (no clicking!)

A step in the right direction [img]http://static.minecraftforum.net//public/style_emoticons/default/diamond.png[/img]

Wow - I am a little confused....* The client now comes with both the client-side and the server-side JAR files. The file called “minecraft.jar” should be in your “.minecraft/bin” folder as usual, and the “minecraft_server.jar” file should be in a folder called “.minecraft/server”. (from Mojang.com)..... Does this mean each client needs to add a folder in the .mainecraft folder called server and add the server.jar file there?. Is this in addition to the actual server updating the server.jar file.

I need to explain - I have a home network, a server and 2 other computers, the server runs minecraft (amoungst other things) and the 2 other computers can connect to the minecraft game on the server, as can 2 other players via the internet. Do I need to update the server.jar (separate file) on the server.....AND / OR update the clients to have a /server folder with the server .jar file from the zip file on each client?

So, its says on the minecraft wiki that theres hardcore mode in SMP, does that mean that when all the people on the server die, the map gets deleted or what?

1. Start world, vanillia or with popular modpack.
2. Build and maintain until invinting friends feature will be fully working (it may take a while)
3. Be evil - test death contraptions on them, while they have best armor on them.
4. ???
5. PROFIT!
Blocktopia is former TheOne. It exists since June 2009, few weeks after multiplayer was released [First multiplayer tests: 1st June]. We have 5 premium servers in lobby!
