The pre-release is relatively light, and mostly focused on Realms-specific content. However, the snapshot is loaded to the gills with goodies,
1.7.10 PRE-RELEASE (ALPHA 4)
- This pre-release allows you to finally upload your own worlds to Realms, and adds an option to allow you to enable command-blocks on your own Realm. It also fixes some possible future-compatibility issues we discovered.
Snapshot 14w25a
Hey, look, a snapshot! It has lots of cool new stuff. I’m not going to tell you what they are. Not even about the new sponge texture or the new hostile mob. Nope. Nuhuh. Won’t get any new information about the new underwater stuff from me! I will, however, tell you that this snapshot contains a few months worth of rewrites to some very important parts of the engine. It is very likely that this snapshot may be more unstable than usual, slower than usual, slightly more sentient than usual or just generally unusual. Please help us to fix all these issues by reporting anything you find to the bug tracker!
NOTABLE CHANGES
- Added a new hostile mob.
- Introduced Sponges to survival, with new behaviour and looks.
- Added new scoreboard operations: "=", "<" and ">" - assign, min, max.
- ???
- Badgers were removed from the game.
- Rewrote how items are rendered.
- Rewrote how blocks are rendered.
- Rewrote how block data is handled.
- Rewrote history. Toby isn’t real.
To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher. Back up your world first or run the game on in a different folder (See the “new profile” dialog).
Snapshots can corrupt your world, please backup and/or run them in a different folder from your main worlds.

What's the link on the bug tracker?
You did post it on the bug tracker, right?
Yes
Yes, they do (and the guardian's attack is really weird)
Endermites came out a few snapshots ago...
Yeah, I get a gigantic lag spike when I go underwater at all.
First up, grass and fern blocks don't render with an offset anymore. All nice even rows. Good for gardens maybe but looks bad in the wild I think.
Apparently the anisotropic filtering option is gone for now.
And for the bug, splash potions when thrown render as...that.
Can't say I'm a fan of the new sponge texture but wouldn't say it's terrible either. Would probably get used to it in time, kind of like when they changed the gravel texture.

The dungeon idea is nice, but I was hoping, and I speak only for myself and my spouse, that these things might occupy bodies of water at random, like squid and not just around a specific structure.
Those are my thoughts. Just gonna enjoy seeing what I can build with the new blocks
edit: what the pit is that creepy ghost thing?
The ghost also gives you Mining Fatigue when it appears.
Re: coarse dirt: if it's a replacement for "grassless" dirt then why bother adding in a new block? Isn't it just a texture change at this point?
They did this with all 1.7 snapshots, from 13w36a to 13w43a
Why have it on? All it does is make stuff fuzzy in the distance. It's also both very obvious and stupid looking with things like ladders (they turn into complete fuzz like 12 blocks above your position).
I'm pretty sure it's helmet only, i watched docm77's video and he said so. Either that or you can only enchant the helmets, but it still works on others. We should find out...
Also, dispensers always flip to a certain direction.
