Are you ready to breed an entire farm, and stuff them in a minecart roller-coaster? I hope so, because the 0.8.0 MCPE update is now live! It includes a pile of features:

FEATURES AND CHANGES:

  • Minecarts, rails, and powered rails!
  • The view distance has been massively increased. Check the options menu for more!
  • New textures and colours taken directly from the PC version
  • New blocks: carpets, more wood types, hay bales, iron bars, and more
  • New crops and food types, including beetroot, carrots, potatoes and pumpkins. Now you can cook new soups, pies, and more!
  • A bunch of new items for Creative and Survival, including clocks and compasses
  • More blocks and items to use in Creative Mode: including jungle wood, ice, bedrock, shears, dyes, and tall grass
  • New AI: mobs are now more intelligent and you can even breed your own animals
  • A new Creative Mode inventory with tabs
  • New functionality and tweaks to existing blocks and items. Bonemeal lets you grow new cool stuff!
  • Improved lighting and fog effects
  • Loads of bugs fixed, and possibly some added

You can get the update at the App Store, as well as Google Play. Have fun!

Is it available on iOS? My Android phone is not detecting the update, there's no "update" button on the Play Store...

I got it on my iPad. There is a small bug in that it can't find the description for a cobblestone wall, but other than that it's great! I've already created a huge minecart track on one of my survival mode games. :D

My question is..... why does the pocket edition have such cool features, and you can't even fix the mobs falling through blocks in the PC version. We paid a LOT more for the game than the mobile people.... how about doing a little fixing. huh?

Ok, I played it a little and it seems neat.
I like the new hotbar. Menu in Creative is a little confusing but I'll get used to it ;)
Minecarts are really cool. It would be cool if they could break signs.
Because when you place a block behind them they start moving, a block update happens. Then if they could break sings it would be a whole new Redstone Alternative.

It doesn't say anything about redstone dust in the changelog, but since things like powered rails and compasses were added, I guess redstone dust has been added...? Or do they use another ingredient entirely?

Different development teams. PE has its own little group that works on it, separate from the bigger company working on the PC version.

Yes and no. Redstone now drops redstone dust mined but that dust can't be placed a block like in PC. Instead, it's used solely as part of crafting recipes. Right now, we only have clock, compass, and (always) powered rails.

Yeah I found that when I tried it out earlier today. Thanks anyway though. :)

Welp, I've tried it out and I have to say, Good Job! I love the new clouds and all of the new items you guys added. I'm a avid user of all 3 versions of Minecraft and i'm surprised you managed to fit this much content into the update. Once again Great Job!

As mentioned previously, sort of. Redstone ore now drops redstone, but it cannot be used as a wire, only as a crafting material.
