    Quote from fluttershyistree

    Modding survivals are great.

IF you know what the hell you are doing...

This is the problem, it is currently hard to do so for complete beginners, especially when going for dozens of ones with item ID conflicts and so on.
Solution? try using mod packs. My sisters are unable to do anything computer related, so I just gave us all FTB (Feed the Beast) and now we are playing some insanely techy, intradimensional worlds with multiple bosses and helpful additions.

I keep staring at these crazy backpacks, and either you people are playing in pvp servers, going full nomad or have decided to try mining in far off lands instead of stripping for some reason.

Fact is, barebones but prepared is often best, and for just vanilla gameplay and mobs you dont NEED anything near sharpness 5 or fortune picks everywhere.
    • diamond sword, sharpness is fine but depending on your worst enemy some sort of bane is perfect.
    • 45-64 torches, with a stack of planks and half of coal for torches. You should not need to make a perfect trail of torches everywhere, just enough for lighting up temp bases or medium caves.
    • 1 pick is FINE, for casual backpacking and exploring you are not going hardcore spelunking, just need somthing to hollow out a cave or get to high places. same for shovel.
    • I carry about a stack of cobble and dirt as-needed blocks, for staircasing or blocking. dirt for easy removal, cobble for larger projects (remember we are not doing a huge modern castle, you dont need to carry quartz, every type of brick, etc)
    • a water bucket. Lava is good for defense, but water is usable for nearly everything and you can get by without lava.
    • food. again, casual trips and exploration? 20 steaks or 30 bread, that kind of thing. melons wont cut it, no food saturation and you are always eating. try staying topped up, but dont waste food on a single food bar...
    • a bow and arrows of course for ranged combat, dont take any elite enchanted ones considering they can degrade quickly on constant use like in the nether. a little bit of power and knockback is perfect, we are not facing diamond clad bandits.
    • lastly, misc items for situations. ender pearls are ok, but you probably dont need multiple stacks. if you want to get over large hills, try making paths for easy travel later. fishing rods are good substitutes for low amounts of food, and can maybe work instead of bows if you really have no arrow income. potions are a good idea, but lets face it, there is rarely a need to carry multiple ones in vanilla gameplay. a speed potion and splash health is mostly all you need. Ender chests are useful, but again unless you are going hardcore spelunking far, far off there is often little reason to take multiple ones, or any. Clock & compass? look, rely on landmarks and clouds/block textures for directions and looking around for time telling.

I've been doing this for a while now and I need some ideas. My tree looks too perfectly round in my opinion. I want to know what you guys think from the pics.

try enlarging those roots, make them thicker. should make the base of the tree more natural.

    You survive like this.

this is not possible when the entire area seems to be picked clean and spawning seems broken.

I joined a hardcore server, and the main problem isnt the other players... its just trying to get by.

    1) You need shelter. What do you do, caves? Huts? Trees?
    2) FOOD. best method/long term?
    3) Mining is a must, but do you try checking out caves first or go straight to making stairs to bedrock?

(Personally, I only have problems with #2, but who doesn't? I found a farm, but it refuses to grow, and hardcore servers are not known to have much livestock roaming around...)

if you really want to mod it up, but are horrible at it, try Feed the Beast. Comes with its own launcher, got everything from technical to magical to just useful mods.
Make a mobile base that drills through the ground, or create golem minions to farm for you. you can even keep chunks loaded and transport lava from the nether.

honestly? large rooms at bedrock level without even pinpointing slime chunks is the simplest method. If mobs are not spawning with your decent farm mechanics, then blame a server mob cap limit or something, SMP is odd like that. You can go days without seeing a mob, then get a cave infested to the brim.

    *ignore different colored chests, mods

my setup is as thus: rubble (cobble dirt sand gravel), fuel (wood coal saplings), drops (mobs, plants, food), minerals (ores), materials (building stuff and items/weapons) and magic (brewing and enchanted stuff)

when a chest fills up, make another above it. if rubble fills up, make a huge project with all that stone!

posted a message on The Void's Wrath RPG Mod Pack [1.4.7] 8 Dimensions, 100's of Mobs and New Weapons!
hello, very interested in your modpack since it has most of what im looking for. Questions:

    -does it play nicely with other mods? wanted to also use tree-decapitater and Thaumcraft (< if="" possible),="" so="" wondered="" about="" item="" id="">

-is there no vanilla client version? I use MultiMC and was looking for something I could just stick in the mods/coremods folder when using forge, or that I could just insert into the minecraft.jar

-If I where to just use these mods individually would there be conflicts? as in if I look for and try what I mentioned above for each mod you have there?

tree farms dont need bonemeal. just plant a bazillion saplings in a grid or right next to each other, whatever, and as long as there is a ceiling 8-9 blocks above it it will never grow too tall to reach.

as for how to get saplings, unless you got some crazy mods installed you just gotta go find some.

little nether rail tip: dig a shaft right below bedrock ceiling level, avoid all open spaces and ghasts. a few iron picks and you'll go far.

I like to play on Hardcore, and I was just wondering. Do you have to choose your tree and become one with it right at the start? Or are you allowed to spend any time (even a few minutes) to gather food/essentials first?

in the spirit of the game, no. in custom rules, whatever. I personally let myself roam a little at the hours of twilight, like a real spirit.

    Quote from stoneyunknownn

If anyone knows vechz, do you think it's worthwhile doing an extra tough version of inkstar, like a super-hardcore version of the map, less story, more rage quit?

sounds nice. as It is, the game is not casual, but neither is it hard at all. if you can make it comparable to his continental map lethamyr, just with more awesome giant builds, then it would be incredible.

I don't think you can use MCpatcher and Optifine together. If you have to use MCpatcher, then that should be fine. you'll be able to run the hd textures and change the cloud height or turn them off.

I honestly dont see why not. since 1.0 I have been using optifine, rei's minimap, and modloader for a sound addition, all with mcpatcher.

(i would edit previous post and delete this one if I could find that delete button)
