    NEW RELESE - RTG 0.1.0.

Nice! Congratulations on getting into Beta - seeing all the work that's been poured into this lovely project (and seeing how much it's improved over Ted's RWG) is inspiring, to say the least. I was getting the "world type other than 'Realistic' being chosen crashes RTG" weirdness with ATG, so I had to remove it for testing purposes, but now I can add it back in and have a poke around. I do have a question though - was any work required to get Underground Biomes to work with your worldgen? I remember in (much) earlier alphas it would generate a world but there would be intermittent crashes (I do not have a log unfortunately). I'll test a bit this morning, but does any of this ring a bell?

Thank you for your hard work! :D

Was that built with Collapsible Blocks along with the Twisted Blocks in Factorization? I really like how it looks, but I checked out the Twisted Blocks and I doubt I'll have any luck with it. I just can't figure them out and don't even know how or where to start in trying to replicate the build in the pics you posted. Might just be too complicated for me :(

There are no Carpenter's Blocks in that build. You'd only be able to build the tops and bottoms of each slice anyhow - sideways Collapsibles would be required for everything else. As far as how to use the Factorization blocks, I could PM instructions (it felt complicated but when I sat down and looked everything over again, and with practice, it sorted itself out) rather than clutter this thread up with tutorials. I could make an Imgur album if you like.

The bad part was I was actually getting insomnia from overthinking stuff. When I fell asleep, I would dream Minecraft worlds and physics, which isn't the worst thing ever. I mean, at least I wasn't naked.

I used to have Minecraft dreams all the time.. now not so much on account of not getting to play much anymore. Funny thing is, I'd die in the dream, and I was in fact naked upon respawn. No spare armor at home of course. I'd go out to get my stuff, darkness falls, and it's tic-tac PP smack while I run away from zombie hordes looking for my gear. I never found my gear. :(

Also, glad to see you're alive and presumably well! Unless of course you're a doppleganger too, and this whole forum's userbase was replaced by lifelife robotic humanoids and the only way to live beyond the age of 25 is to eek out a humble life as a miner deep beneath the Earth's surface where the subterranean cannibal cartel have established a reputable trade in human kidneys and tonsils. If that's the case, then... iikip optupac ocrok rok nevada pblpblpblllllt.

Nik flot blarney kwando floo! And I'm also pretty sure this was the plot of a somewhat recent sci-fi flick. It's what Twilight should have been, if the author wrote more books.

That Macho Dragon video you posted? Yeah.. I want to make a pull request to Hardcore Ender Expansion to have this included as a "holiday event" that triggers every May 20th (day he passed away). Dude was seriously my hero when I was a kid. The glasses, the muscles, Miss Elizabeth on his shoulder, flying through the air landing elbow-first in peoples faces.. yeah. Thanks for the feels (though that may not have been your intent, haha). Now I want to play Skyrim.

Why hello, forum perusers. Been a long time since we rock and rolled.

It's cool if I resurrect this long-dead topic for the sake of apology, yes?

    Cool.

So long story short, I got burnt out on Minecraft something hard. I spent a lot more time thinking about the game than I felt was healthy. I needed to put more focus on other things. The sort of things any man reaching 30 (and beyond) should consider, really. I would say I may have bit off more than I could chew, but I don't believe that. I've completed bigger projects in a shorter span of time. I really did enjoy my time working on this mod and I'm happy to see it continued to be updated. Hats off to you, Ephys!

I would love to say I've returned to modding, but as of now that's not my intention. Just wanted to apologize to the community and those I've worked with - and probably disappointed. I have thought about it; kinda miss the feels. As you can probably tell, I had a lot of fun with the forum posts and updates. A lot of you guys were really fun to bounce ideas off of.

So with that said, if we speak again, expect more absurdity. If not then... well, expect... ...less ...?

    Yooo!

Pleasant surprise seeing your post here, it was. Glad to see you all alive and stuff (unless you're a doppelganger posting as Toops, in which case please quit playin' games with my heart (my heart)). Hope life's been tolerable for you. When you pour so much of your time into something, it's normal to get burned out from time to time; guess it just hit you harder than others, which is cool. Even if you don't mod anymore, feel free to get on here and BS with us. Seriously, if we get bored, this could turn into one of those RP threads where you bounce around stuff like "If I were still modding.. I'd make steel golems do the Harlem Shake if they get attacked by silverfish!" or we'd debate the nutritional value of steel-coated beef jerky (which I am in fact still waiting on to be implemented). Or, just stop by and say hi every now and again. :)

Whatever you end up doing, do it well! My favorite saying is, "Never do two things partially; do one thing fully, and whatever you don't get done, screw it - someone else will pick up the slack." Happy Turkey Day, and stay safe!

I apologize if this has been covered already - I did a search of the thread and found nothing - but my understanding is that there's another 1.7.10 release coming. Will this include integrated shaders like the latest 1.8 releases?

This was within 100 blocks of spawn. I'm not sure what dude was looking for when they asked for mod support, but.. they work just fine from here. :D

I followed your guidelines above for biome weighting, Pink, and the first world I spawned in placed me right next to twin OCEANS. I've generated a few more worlds since then and have found oceans in all of them (one took me 3k blocks to find it, but it was there). Thank you for your suggestions!
Here are a couple Journeymap screenshots of the double ocean world:
    and to the southeast

Also, in refence to the AppleMilkTea2 issue on Github, here are screenshots from that world demonstrating functional worldgen:
I'll give the Maple Trees mod from that post a shot and add screenshots of worldgen (it does not add biomes, so I doubt you'll have to add any special love for it). You're probably going to have to work a bit for Sextiary Sector however. :(

I didn't tried the new version yet but noticed the big lakes with the wrong biome too. I was surprised to find a lake which was so big I though it was an ocean... before seeing it was in a lush desert biome. I don't think I ever found an ocean yet.

I'll test the 0.0.18 version next week.

For people asking for 1.8: it's better to wait for 1.9 now. Forge isn't even updated for 1.8.8 yet and they do lot of work now to have less work when 1.9 comes out, which means 1.9 should take way less time than 1.8.

Any mods that update to 1.8 are doing it so that the transition to 1.9 is smoother. The "newer is better" ethic some people have when updating their mods to 1.8 falls apart when half your mod has to be left on the cutting room floor because Forge no longer feasibly supports it or the hooks haven't been added back in yet. 1.8 and its iterations will be dropped for 1.9 the same way 1.7.2 was when 1.7.10 got stable, mark my words. It actually makes me a little sad seeing people get so worked up for 1.8 when it's just going to fall apart.

Village size set to 1, it looks like any changes you made to villages are compatible with Witchery:

Here's another big village I found, but I got sucked onto a StarMiner satellite so my view is upside down:

Also, I really like the gentle inclines Rocky Steppes and some of the hilly forest biomes have. I know you have/had been working on flattening terrain out, and it looks marvelous! It seems Oceans and Deep Oceans are kind of rare in 0.0.18 - thousands of blocks traveled in 2 different worlds with their weights set to 50 then 75 - not a one to be found. Saw tons of deep lakes and wide river-like water channels, but nothing specifically "Ocean". maybe it's my "luck" coming into play? :D

-edit- Here are a few examples of giant non-ocean lakes:

This one goes as low as Y20. The biome is Glacier, and the entire bottom of the lake is ice (you can see the ores under the ground layer)

Journeymap shot of a huge lake I found. It's quite lovely, and two different deltas/tributary systems conjoin here, but man.. I've seen Oceans smaller than that.

I'm not so much complaining as I am reporting what I've seen so far. 10000 blocks from spawn, no oceans yet (weight 75). :D (-edit- Found one, 18000 blocks out. I must be terribly unlucky, will try further increasing biome weight.)

Deeper rivers... yeah, I could probably make them a bit deeper.

The Nether... not something I'm interested in, sorry.

Realistic structures... now that's an interesting idea.
    .

+1 for deeper rivers. I like the way they're shaped in the worlds I've made, but in some places they look like shallow pools of water connected at the corners.

As much as I'd like a more dynamic-looking Nether, I have to agree with RTG leaving it alone. BoP does a fairly good job of diversifying the feel of the place and combinations of other mods like Natura and Gany's Nether add some cool stuff, but I fear time spent on a dimension few people use regularly would take time away from polishing up the already massive list of biomes added to the Overworld. It may also give mods like Doomlike Dungeon some grief (or make them look like crap when they generate in strange places). BoP had to add blocks (which RTG does not) and hack/override the whole dimension (Nether by default only has one biome, Hell) to get it to work. That's kind of beyond the scope of this mod. If anything, it could be an addon of some sort?

Overhauling vanilla dungeons sounds nice because the only way they really interact with other mods is chest loot. If you do *anything* in the Nether, overhauling Nether Fortresses could be a good place to start. A rework to caves sounds fun too, so long as it stays compatible with mods like CaveBiomes or WildCaves. Villages on the other hand, that might cause issues. Tons of mods add their own structures to villages (Thaumcraft, Buildcraft, Railcraft, Forestry, Flaxbeard's Steam Power to name a few) and Witchery in particular rearranges the structure of villages, adds its own guard posts and guard NPCs, and builds a wall around the whole thing. Unfortunately Witchery doesn't have an API nor will it for 1.7.10, most likely. If you do this as an addon, may I suggest config options to disable certain modules (dungeon, stronghold, village, caves, etc) in case of conflict please?

    Sorry for the novella!

There are colored glowstone and lamps, yes. Also, many mods add CLC support through the API (Botania, Project: Red, BluePower, Garden Stuff to name a few).

Of the new features in TC5, there aren't many that could be ported back to TC4 without changing it a great deal. Stuff that would probably work: Vis Shard focus, Arcane Casters, Automated Crossbow, sideways Levitators. The Aura stuff, the new taint mechanics, and probably the shard crystals, likely would require an overhaul and as such wouldn't be feasible.

    Informative! Thank you.

Here's a suggestion for you: the Vis Shard focus from TC5. It uses a targeting similar to Nine Hells, but fires a purple projectile similar to wisps, that move towards the target in bursts of motion, then dive at them for a single attack.

...Why not just disable the Kami stuff in the config?

Because I do like some of the things in Kami, and that there is work involved in obtaining them (tedious as it may be). Specifically, I like having access to Ichor Caps, the Bottomless Pouch and the Celestial Gateway systems (and I use the Ichor/Ichorium Ingots in custom recipes). You do have a point though.. maybe I should disable Kami and just make my own Thaumcraft Tab/research for the items I want?

I love Chunky renders. :D RTG just makes their usefulness ooze out of every pore, and it's a nice way to get an idea of what sweeping changes a tiny tweak could make to the mod.
