posted a message on Silver Gaming is seeking builders for upcoming RP server

Greetings! Welknair, one of the two co-heads here! I'm very excited to see all the work being done on the server recently, and hope that we can add a few more builders to help speed things along!

I'm very interesting to see this newest wave of characters, as the players behind them have all been on the server for over a month and thus know the current state of things. I wonder how/if that'll affect character types and/or traits selected.

Soooo how about that Battle of Concord? I think that was record-setting in terms of number of player-deaths in a single event. Absolutely brutal end to Chapter I.

(As a note, Martial Weapons requires Simple Weapons as a pre-req)

Edit: Read through your bio. You mayyy want to add an actual biography to your bio. As-is it seems like more of a description of your combat prowess and a very rough personality, as opposed to the actual history of your character. Where were you born? What did your family do for a living? Where did you learn your trade? Who've you worked with, what have you learned? How do you fit into our world and the events transpiring? At the moment, I see nothing in your bio that would even suggest that you live on Enris, let alone a detailed explanation of why you are there with the current situation.

The war camp's all set up, only five more days until the players lay siege to the monster-infested city of Concord!

Put simply, any background we may be convinced to allow you would not come with any benefits in terms of actual wealth/status/possessions, sorry :P In any case, any lands that any nobles once had have been thoroughly taken and trashed by the monsters.

I am sorry to inform you that the vassals have perished, leaving no heirs :P And yeah, 225 is the requirement, not 2250. That said, you are perfectly allowed to write a much longer bio if you want, and many players do. It can really help flesh out your character, it's just more work than a lot of people want to put in when they aren't sure if they'll like the server.

Edit: Talked to Riengo some. It would appear that the lord of Aemon's Hall, Angan, had a ton of bastards. Angan himself and most of his progeny were killed in the monumental calamity that was the battle of Aemon's Hall, but a few likely were out of the city at the time. So it'd be technically feasible to play as one of them, if you really want. You'd need to be a Halfman or at least half-Halfman, though :P You can talk to Riengo for further details on that, if you want.

    1. We have Lockette, one of the only plugins which hasn't just been replaced by custom-code. So this allows you to lock all containers, plus doors. Thievery is allowed to an extent, as long as you fill out an appropriate VA first and get staff approval. Usually once that's done, you'd get to the container you want to steal from, contact an online staff member, and they'd retrieve a few choice items for you, and likely leave a sign by the container noting how it's been rummaged through or lock tampered with, etc. The point is as much to create RP as to simply move belongings from one person to another :P

    2. We use a custom-made physical economy of gold coins, which look like nuggets. Everyone starts with 32 (more, if you have Savings). As with many things, this is in its very early stages, and is yet to really reveal how things will end up running. Hypothetically the economy falls under the Hand's jobs, and I believe he has additionally elected a Treasurer to help with such matters- So players. There are four main ways of exchanging goods: 1) Simply talking to another player and trading, 2) A player with Merchant can make an NPC villager to buy and sell goods for them, 3) Any player may post items in the auctionhouse for others to purchase, and lastly 4) Baeshra plays an international merchant capable of importing requested items. A bit of gold can enter the economy as reward for events, and a bit can leave from being spent on those imports. Very much still developing.

    3. Arturan would be fancy-speak, and I could imagine it being used in high-society of several nations. That said, "nobility" on Enris is really just the King. And he's been around for all of two or three events so far, where he's had to use Caro to address the general public. As for the various others, that's really up to players and circumstance. I mentioned that Linguist and Scholar were both very popular- There's a lot of people running around with two or more additional languages, so none of them have really firm lines on where they are or are not used. Some things can be extrapolated from our mechanics; for example, all players get a bonus language, so hearing such languages is definitely more on the usual side of things, as opposed to extremely exotic. That said, most people still speak Caro in public, simply for the sake of being understood by those around them. The additional languages end up being used mostly to communicate more privately in small, like-minded groups.

As a note, I think Riengo was about equally involved in most of the lore-writing process, so I think at least some of that praise goes to him :P And neither are british, but I think that Riengo may favor their spellings? In any case, I definitely agree! Fantastic lore ^_^

No, we expect you to read absolutely every post and doc anywhere related to the server :P Nah, no worries!

OOC Enforcement: For the most part, it's just never really been a problem for us. We make the rule, and people follow it. I can't recall any instances like those you're describing occurring on any of our servers. Occasionally a player skirts the line, at which point a staff member is notified, the player is talked to and given a warning, and usually that's the end of it. If a player repeatedly did the sorts of things you describes, after warnings they'd like move on to temp-ban and/or perma, depending on how egregious it was.

Building: Your observations are 100% correct. We do definitely allow players to build, and even encourage it. And yes, the Exhaustion system, in regards to block placing/breaking, was very intentionally designed to stop exactly that sort of "We built it overnight" types of issues (Which we HAVE had on previous servers), and so far it's seemed to be working quite well. We have very few protected areas, most regarding future parts of our story. All the main settlements (atm only Thaeron and Hospitality are safe) are completely unprotected. Of course, IC, you probably want permission from the Hand of the King before claiming land and such, but that's another matter :P

Groups/Factions: Kind of? The server is still very young (we opened two or so weeks ago?) so a lot of that hasn't had time to form. All players are hypothetically within the Cordolan Federation, but as you can see from our OP, that encompasses a lot of nationalities with potential for conflict. That said, again, everyone is on the single island of Enris, so don't expect players to be waging wars on each other (Maybe civil, if they want to?). And we do have a king, King Harrick, who's played by the staff member Zymph. However, Zymph has been busy IRL, and the king has been very ill, so the Hand has been handling things (and we like giving players some power anyway, so it isn't an issue). Additionally, semi-faction-wise, we already have the Garrison, the Academy, a Fighter's Guild (which has an upcoming tournament to determine the new player-leader), and I think one of the players has started something of a business organization. In general, there's nothing stopping a group of players from getting together and proclaiming themselves X, especially if they get the Hand's blessing. As far as settlements go, Thaeron is really where pretty much everyone is atm. The Darkness has recently been pushed back enough that players are beginning to repopulate the previously destroyed town of Hospitality. Players are allowed to set out and build their own settlements, but such would definitely need OKing from the Hand or King, and OOC, I'd prefer the players not spread themselves too thinly.

Staff: First, a note. Pretty much all staff do a little bit of everything. That's why we only have a couple listed as GMs- Because everyone helps out on events. So none of these are completely set-in-stone responsibilities, just generally what their tasks relate to.

Loremaster: SOMEONE needed to come up with the cultures and histories from around our world, as well as the nuances of our religion. Loremasters are tasked with writing such content, and with keeping it all straight for events that concern it.

Admin v Owners ("Server Heads"): For the most part, Admins are at the top of the totem-pole in terms of controlling events on the server. The staff has been together for a long time, and different members take up Admin at different times, based on who has ideas or is in the best IRL spot to be able to offer that much time to the server. The Server Heads are technically a rung above, but usually spend more time with the actual operation of the server (behind the scenes stuff) than the direct orchestration. Baeshra and I were the original founders of the rebirthed Silvergaming, the server is run on a computer at Bae's location, and we are brothers, so we've got all that going for us. For the most part, he's our super-code-wizard, and I'm the systems-design and HR manager.

Staff Privileges: The purpose of staff is to make the server more enjoyable for players. There are a number of staff in starting-power-positions, simply because players would not be adequately capable of filling them to start (IE, King, Headmaster, Master Alchemist, Mage, High Priest, are all staff members). However, IC we do not so much control action as encourage or nudge it. We're NPCs, basically, and these positions are necessary to set up our world and get things rolling. And all these positions, in time, can potentially be superseded by players that have stepped into them.

Map: Sadly not at the moment, though I think one's been requested before. Most of the island is forests and plains, with a large snow-topped mountain range on the Northwestern coast. A few large lakes and rivers can be found in the interior. The majority of the coast is steep cliffs, making travel by boat difficult anywhere but the ports.

Server Needs: Thanks for asking! Right now, we have a MASSIVE ABUNDANCE of very social characters- Savings, Linguist and Scholar are three of the most popular traits, by far. We have a fair number of combatants as well. At the moment, what is really lacking are laborers. We have only a couple each of miners, smiths, and lumberjacks, while these are pretty fundamental roles to get our economy moving. I think smith isn't in as great need now, but the other two certainly could be of great use.

    Hope those help!
