What version of forge are you using? I've heard some versions of forge don't allow this. I've got it to work on Forge 9.10.0.777

You can, as long as the line "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true" is in the JVM arguments section of your profile.

I've gotten it to work with Minecraft Forge installed. Make sure the line "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true" is in your JVM arguments section in the profile you are using.
