posted a message on Is what I'm dreaming up even possible for my hardware?

    Quote from DiOne >>

Im sorry to day but 2GB of ram won't be enough. Your OS alone should take at least 1GB of your ram. If you give 500MB to the server + 500MB to run the Minecraft client you have an insanely small amount of ram for each part needed. Then theres all the other stuff you might want to run... your browser, Skype, etc...

If the machine is just for running the Minecraft server and uses a fairly lightweight OS (which most servers should be using anyway), 2GB will do just fine.

posted a message on Is there way to combine minecraft skins?
    Quote from Jellied_JimBob»

that sounds like it would need effort though

    I don't like effort

It's fairly easy with a image editor that supports layers (for example, GIMP, Paint.NET, etc)
Put both skins in their own layers, select the upper layer and delete half of each side of the skin. After that you simply merge the layers and you're done.

The easiest way is probably to open up your preferred image editor and merge them manually.

posted a message on World Edit for Multiplayer

Client-side WorldEdit obviously only works in single player and server-side only in multiplayer. Client-side WorldEdit doesn't do anything (except maybe add a selection visualizer) when on a server.

posted a message on Modification Whitelists. Keep hackers out of your server.

The only way to implement this is extremely strict DRM and that's not happening. If this was implemented without strict DRM, it would simply be an annoyance to legit users and change nothing for cheaters.

    Quote from SpyChickenn»

Because, i have no clue how to setup a dedi, and or vps. Never worked with one of these, never even touched one.

Some hosts may offer managed dedicated servers where the host installs the basic things (java, a control panel, etc) for you. Even those that don't have such services officially may do it if you contact their support. With a quick search, I found that at least BisectHosting has an official package for the basic multicraft setup.

If money is not a problem and you want good performance, why shared hosting rather than a dedicated server?

posted a message on Anyone need administrator for servers?

No serious servers will accept you with this kind of an "application". Here are some reasons why:

    1. You just don't make a thread asking to be admin on a server. That's just not how it works. Servers will ask for applications when they need staff. Applicants don't ask for servers.
    2. Your application is way too short and vague. You only give the most basic information, which just isn't enough. You need to tell things like why should the server choose you instead of applicant #42 and what can you do to improve the server.
    3. You don't start off as admin on most servers, especially if you know nothing about administering a server. Most servers have new staff members start off as moderators or a similar rank.
    4. You only have one post (which is this one) and you literally joined half an hour ago (at the time of this reply), which certainly doesn't increase your trustworthiness.

posted a message on Who else plans on buying Minecraft: Story Mode?

Telltale doesn't seem to like penguins, so I most likely won't be buying it.

    Quote from OblivionGalaxy»

It depends on the price, and how 'good' it turns out to be.

Minecraft Realms seems pointless to me, honestly, and if MC Story Mode is somewhat like it, I most likely will not.

Realms and the story mode are in no way related. Realms is just an oversimplified way to host a small whitelisted server. MC: Story Mode is a new game which is made to look like Minecraft.

I'm hoping it will be free like Windows 10 PE...

Most likely won't be free. It's not Minecraft, it's a different game which looks like Minecraft and has an actual storyline.

posted a message on An actual loading screen
Vanilla loading times are so short that this is not needed. A loading bar is quite useful for big modpacks, but that should be left to the modders (Forge already has a loading bar). No support.

    Quote from S1ay3r»

Actually this is already a thing. Some modpacks will show you their mod building progress.

All modpacks using recent Forge versions that haven't disabled the bar will have one.

posted a message on Will basic plugins be 1.9 compatible?
    Quote from CraftedCreator»

    Do plugins usually auto update?

Well actually now that I think about it, I use plugins made for 1.2 or something that work in 1.8 so, yeah :P

Plugins don't update themselves, but since bukkit is an abstraction layer the internal (Minecraft) changes may not break the plugins. Bigger plugins have a higher chance of breaking with each bukkit update. Fairly small plugins for 1.2 may very well work in 1.8.

posted a message on Server Startup Advice

For the hub, it depends on what kind of hub and games you need:

    • BungeeCord allows you to link up multiple Minecraft servers. It requires a bit more setup, but won't have any conflicts between the games since they will be running on separate server instances. The different games won't even be aware of each other unless you configure it that way.
    • Multiworld plugins like Multiverse allow you to create multiple worlds. Setup is quite easy, but there may be conflicts between the games which could be much harder to resolve than setting up a BungeeCord network.

    Quote from lcswolf»

Due to the Dmca with bukkit (and variations) it has not officially been updated for aro und a year now but there are some unofficial updates to the api but many plugin developers are looking at new api for example sponge is looking to be the favourite at the moment.

but as to the speed of plugins being updated and which api they use that is if they are updated only the plugin developers can answer

Most developers and servers seem to be using Spigot, since Sponge isn't in an even nearly usable state yet and because most Bukkit plugins work directly on Spigot.
