posted a message on Allowing modders to distribute their work for free if they want to.

Agreed,..it will never happen. Microsoft is a business and as Herb says above,..it's 'Locked Down'. We're all gonna have to pay for our mods on the Market Place. We all knew that was going to happen anyway the day MS purchased the Rights.

    3. Do you have to create an Xbox account in order to play online with other people?

Absolutely. You don't need to pay for the subscription ones though unless you intend to use more of the Xbox Live features. Just register and create a free account. I'm a Windows 10 User on PC and even I get automatically signed into Xbox. This is necessary now we have cross-platform.

If you are looking for a relaxed Realm, respond with gamer tag and age. If you have reached the age of 30+, feel free to respond as such.

So why are you accepting 18, 19 and 20 year olds, and why are those 18, 19, and 20 year olds even asking to join when the invite in your comment states 30+? What a crazy thread! lol. Just saying.

I thought the windows 10 verion let them play between xbox , pc and phone ?

It does. Providing everybody is playing the W10 version. Players across all platforms such as Xbox One, PC and IOS mobile can play with each other on LAN providing they are all on the W10 version. You cannot have one playing Java and one on W10.

    My tricks:

    1. I use two torches to mark the way back: one above the other, if I have to go up or down, or side by side, if it's a horizontal tunnel.

    That's a brilliant idea actually.

You must all have the same version of Minecraft. The Windows 10 version is totally separate from the old Java version of Minecraft. They are incompatible with each other.

I hope it doesn't end up like Real Racing 3 where you can only go so far, in an amazing game and stopped cold due to payment.

    Just my opinion.

I certainly get what you're saying. When you think about it,..in the days when people went out and purchased a board game (pre technology days), they had an ending and would usually last about two hours at most. That was yer lot until you decided to play again many months later. People today have never had it so good. I've personally never minded paying for little extras if it makes me happy and enhances my game.

Yes,..there will of course be all sorts of micro-transactions coming but they are not forced on anybody. Microsoft is a business after all and they didn't buy Minecraft just to be loved by the people. They did it because they knew they could make money from it and why not? So far,..Microsoft have done an excellent job with providing a very stable game in C++ and now that we have the BTU incorporating crossplay is making Minecraft more exciting by the day.

BTU just came out. It's just the beginning and this is just the first version. You ain't seen nuthin yet! More servers (and game updates/new features) will be added shortly.

Absolutely,...I really am so glad that I am onboard with Minecraft and finally ditched the Java edition. Minecraft works beautifully on W10, and is very stable indeed. I have some texture packs and a couple of World DLCs that I purchased from the store. Ok,..I'm happy to pay for these kind of things to support good work by the community.

What has excited me the most is how easy it all is. Everything all-in-one. The game, the store and easy convenience for servers and crossplay. That's a real coup for Microsoft.

I remember scouring the internet in my Java days searching for this mod, searching for that utility, then having to wait for the mod to be upgraded because the main game got upgraded,..yea,.was getting fed-up with it all. This is now no longer the case. My texture packs and World DLCs will always work. Now that's progress.

Java edition has over 9000 multiplayer servers.

    Bedrock has 3.

That's because the Java edition has been out a lot longer. Give it time. Just like everything else,..people don't like change but when they do, whether forced or otherwise, they soon get used to it.

It's a bit like the hate towards Windows 10 OS. People didn't want to move on from 7 or 8 and kicked up a fuss whilst millions of us who upgraded or purchased from new had no problems with it. Oh,..and another thing, if you're not on W10 ( minimum 1607 Anniversary), then don't even think about installing the new cross-platform Minecraft because it won't work. You're stuck with Java.

I ditched the old Java version of Minecraft in favour of the Windows 10 version. It's getting better all the time. Even more so with the Better Together Update for cross-platform play with friends and online multiplayer. Java is a relic of the past and it's only the old die-hards that refuse to give it up. I'm an old Java player too like I said but things change and sometimes it's best to move on.

In order to play cross-platform do we need an xbox Live subscription for it or do we just log in and simply invite your friend to join you in the game?

Two of us live in the same house and will be on the same local internet, he's on Xbox, I'm on PC.

    Thanks.

posted a message on Is the 1.2 BTU Available On PC Yet??

As the title says,...I'm playing Minecraft (W10 Edition), on my PC but the version is still 1.1.3. So I go to the Microsoft Store to see if I can update but there is no option for me to update to 1.2. Even when clicking on 'Available Downloads', nothing comes up for Minecraft. It's like I'm just still stuck on v1.1.3.

is the BTU available on the store for the PCs yet??

You can download the beta for the windows 10 version of the better together update now.

Just go to the windows store and download the xbox insider app. Use the app to sign up for the beta then go to the windows store again and update minecraft

Sigh,...another app, another sign in,..just to get Minecraft Beta. That's what I love about Steam, there's none of that if you want to access a beta.

So how long is Beta expected to last then? If the BTU was meant to be released this summer then that leaves about a month left. August would of been a perfect opportunity to release the full update in time for kids and students taking their school summer breaks.
