There are actually some hosts around here who use LSN, Incero, DatabaseByDesign or I/OFlood who offer slightly lower prices
OK, that might be true, but my pricing is still fairly good for the features and support I offer. However, you can use promo code "minecraftforums" for 10% off your first month of Minecraft server hosting!
OK we're now also providing VPS and Dedicated Servers!
Remember that if you need a special configuration we will probably be able to make a plan that fits your needs! https://keylimehosting.com/contactus.php
Also, our whole site is now SSL Encrypted: we care about your privacy and use strong SSL to make sure your customer and payment details stay safe.
Not just downtime... but horrible connection to the US and rest of the world.
However, TBH, your prices are a tad high
Well, since I provide a quality service I must charge a little more than the fly-by-night kiddie hosts.
I can offer you promo code: "minecraftforums" for 10% off your first order of your Minecraft server.
Hopefully that's enough of a motivation to get a server with us
Thank you for the compliments. Yes, Limestone Networks is a much more quality provider than OVH/Kimsufi, that's one main reason for using them. I'd rather have smaller profit margins than have downtime.

I have a feeling this is going to turn into another mac os vs. windows vs. linux flamewar, but I'd seriously be interested to know what's best?
I saw this quote on another thread here:
It also helps a ton if you run it on anything but Windows, preferably Linux, but if you arent comfortable with it, Macs are still better servers than Windows servers.
It made me think... what is the best?
I use Bukkit, not the normal Miencraft Server, so I'm curious to know what is the best for hosting a minecraft server?
Right now I use Windows Server 2003 and I'm happy with it, just curious what I'm missing out on on another OS.
thanks
So, right now I've got the following:
Server:
-2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64X2 CPU
-2GB DDR2 RAM
-CraftBukkit/Bukkit, with Pail interface
-Windows Server 2003
Internet:
-AT&T DSL
-6Mbps download
-768Kbps upload
Now, if I get some donations,
First I'm going to upgrade my internet to Comcast cable internet, which is I think 18Mbps down and 3Mbps up.
Then I want to see if my server is laggy or otherwise insufficient.
If it is, what are some good specs for a minecraft server?
I'm perfectly comfortable building my own PC (I work at a computer repair shop and I also do private computer work) but I'm also happy with buying a PC from Dell, HP, Lenovo, whatever...
So, I'm assuming the CPU powerfulness matters most, then the amount of RAM, and then hard drive space, graphics, etc. don't matter really?
How many players can I have on my current server? (ignoring the fact that my internet sucks, let's just pretent it's infinitely good internet connection).
Would a faster dual-core CPU with hyperthreading (Core i5, for example) and 4GB of RAM be good enough?
Or do I need like 8GB of RAM and dual quad-core CPUs? lol...
PS, I'm looking to have the power to hold at least 50 people on at once, with having some overhead space for bukkit plugins, OS, etc...
and even though I know 50 people can't connect at once even with that Comcast internet, if I get enough donations I could always upgrade, besides I might host a minecraft party at my house with 10 people on my LAN network (Gigabit)...
It looks like it works, but it still times out on downloading terrain. I think it is because my current cpu is very shitty. (Sempron 140) (Remember, the server is hosted on another computer, and when I connect, CPU usage is 100% on my rig but only like 15% on the server)
I will be upgrading to a rig with a Intel i7 2600k and GTX 480 quite soon. Will that fix the problem?
localhost only works if you're hosting your server on the same computer you're trying to play on.
Other people (that connect to your server from other places using your internet connection) use a WAN IP address. if you're inside your house and trying to connect to the server that is also inside your house you DO NOT USE THAT, you use your LAN IP...
What OS do you run on your server?
I would use CommandBook... I just yesterday changed from Essentials to CommandBook and I love it...
xD I just can't test my spawn point :sad.gif:
can somebody please check to make sure you spawn on the glowstone, in the little house, and can exit but not re-enter? thanks!

Use a 'general commands' plugin such as CommandBook or Essentials. With CommandBook you would simply stand on the new spawn coordinate and type /setspawn.
